A collaboration between the groundbreaking Museum of Homelessness and acclaimed poet Surfing Sofas, ‘Objects and Concepts’ is a vital concept album that tells the invisible stories of UK’s homeless community; produced by acclaimed musicians including Renell Shaw (Ivor Novello Award-winning bassist of chart-toppers Rudimental) and Camilo Tirado (Nithin Sawhney, James Holden), in partnership with Lyrix Organix (Glastonbury Festival).

In 2015 Museum of Homelessness launched a national collection and archive for homelessness. The collection includes many donated objects from people who are or have been homeless, collected with an oral testimony. It includes personal effects, ephemera, signs, art, and important possessions that reveal the hidden daily lives and untold stories of people affected by homelessness and those working for social change.

In an era of self-proclaimed ‘changemakers’ where everyone seems to have a story to tell of personal transformation, Surfing Sofas is a rare, authentic, unmistakable voice of power. This is a poet and community artist whose painful lived experience of homelessness has afforded him a very personal insight. His distinctive gravelly tones combine moving, occasionally humorous, poetry with a dynamic soundtrack that journeys through Hip Hop beats, piano melodies and Dub basslines. The album has echoes of George The Poet’s reportage style, Leonard Cohen’s unmistakable baritone/bass and Loyle Carner’s honest lyricism.
