DVS1 - System, First Avenue, Minneapolis (09.04.2011)

Ho ho ho, the mystery-shrouded Rrose - named after Marcel Duchamp’s eponymous persona, punches in right on cue for Xmas with an absolute monster of a two-hour jaunt into their exquisitely twisted headspace. Having served up some of the finest techno slabs of the past decade through the likes of Sandwell District, Stroboscopic Artefacts and now their own dedicated imprint, Eaux, Rrose steps in the series with a bonkers mix of dusty techno hustle-and-bustle, neatly alternating sequences of pumping 4x4 aerobatics, searing, noise-adjacent outbursts and eerie melodies to hypnotic effect. A constant balancing act of raw power and haunting score, Rrose’s RYC mix takes us on a deep and fascinating trip into genre-unbound territories, where only abandon and wildness reign supreme. This is a recording of my full vinyl set at home. :)

One thing I’ve learned about vinyl mixing is the importance of embracing imperfection. I feel satisfied with simply blending two records, especially when the transitions come together seamlessly. When I first started learning vinyl mixing, I would book time on the turntables at a record store in Taipei called 有種. It was there that I met many talented DJs and producers who inspired me. I spent countless hours practising, immersing myself in the craft. That’s how my DJ career began..

Now, every home session feels like a step forward. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress!

Vinyl mixing has taught me patience, precision, and the beauty of the imperfect moments. I’d love to share a bit of my journey with you through my home practice. The transitions may not always be flawless, but every mix brings me closer to the art I love. 💞

MNMT 460 : Mod.1

You may be familiar with the work of Reeko, the Pole Group co-founder and Spanish auteur whose furious techno has expanded the definitions of his genre and piqued clubfloors over the last decade; Juan Rico’s alias has galvanised the world of electronic music like few can. Over the course of his active years he’s worked on a parallel body of work under the pseudonym Architectural, at first in the shadows of anonymity, now coming into the light. Through this second epithet he channels a more fluid sound, one that uses much of the same percussive scaffolding but goes deeper. The project began back in 2010 with a string of releases on his self-titled and newly pressed label and the 2012 release of Peacetime on Semantica Records, cementing his rise as a deft and mysterious talent from the Asturian coast. The intrigue continued with a fusing of his two projects in 2013, a Reeko and Architectural release on his native Pole Group entitled The Blue Album, a dialogue between the two visions, harsh kicks of the first fused with the trailing reverb of the latter. The next two years saw a pair of releases develop the sound he’d built via his own label and Dutch imprint Wolfskull. In tandem, his sets at Tresor, Printworks, Robert Johnson, Bassiani, Awakenings and his local festival LEV have brought his heavy atmospherics to a wider audience. His sound is primal, dubby and immersive, the output of many years of sonic research and collaboration, paced-out and rich with intelligent details. Here, for one of the most important mixes in this long running series, comes Bassiani Podcast 252, a truly singular piece recorded back in November from this paragon of experimental techno.

Cio D’Or is a project-orientaed sound artist, composer and DJ. 
She is deeply immersed in her creative process: developing sound, preparing performances, and composing piano pieces. Her projects are cohesive entities - with tracks serving as crafted fragments of the dramaturgy she shapes in her studio and she bridging the worlds of techno, art, and composition.

Her music balances architectural precision with fluid, cinematic immersion. Every element is placed with intention, shaped by an acute awareness of structure and space, and refined over decades of aural sensitivity. Drawing from jazz, classical music, and contemporary dance, her sound is informed by timeless influences like Bartók, Stravinsky, and Bach.

A dedicated DJ since the late 1990s, her sets are built with a strong sense of dramaturgy - selecting and sequencing tracks to reveal subtle, hidden connections. She began producing out of necessity, starting with an MPC 2000 and a microphone on the shores of the Sinai Desert. Her expansive output includes two films, three albums, 14 EPs, musical theatre productions, collaborations and several renowned scholarships.
