renbourn goes out to any one that has ever had the pleasure of hearing the beautiful guitar playing of john renbourn. the track itself has nothing to do with guitar playing and there are no guitars in the tune but i feel, on john renbourns passing, compelled to dedicate this tune to the memory of the late, great john renbourn. it was made the day john passed away. 
he inspired me to pick up the guitar. 
and i suspect thousands of others too. 
we will miss you and your music john. RIP. may your eyebrows grow ever longer.

personally i think this version is better, more finished and a little more polished.

this track started as a simple piano tinkle, it soon grew in to the monster that is 'self portrait'. 
it has a nice groove and some nice edgy sounds, and it is not ten minutes long like some of my tracks.

the graphic for the track is 1) a calf, somewhere in cornwall, near mousehole,  2) having a wine with a german and a dane round the corner from the boat yard, los christianos,  and 3) my old pal brian dinnery brushing his teeth in tennerife, the place where the photo of brian is is now a golf course and we used to live there in little self built shacks, we repaired boats and busked for the wine money, simple and pure days, pure and simple nights....
