Another colour on the spectrum — Fraxinus delivers a further batch of industrial strength trax with his new EP Powerplant Blue. This is the latest in a series of colour-coded, no-frills white labels on his self-release imprint Powerplant.

Blue sees Fraxinus push the BPM range from previous releases, whilst retaining the same propulsive energy & lean aesthetics he’s known for. X-side up, ‘Interlock’ initiates the sequence with an uncompromising high-tempo workout. The raucous rhythm section rolls like thunder, a formidable breakdown supplying the only moment of respite. Second track ‘Frame Stall’ follows suit with its pounding kicks, upon which an insistent bleep unfolds restlessly.

Flipping to side Y, ‘Uplink’ makes for a dizzying listening experience — deep rolling bass frequencies & an elastic synth being pulled apart before the ears. Despite its bouncing beat, final track ‘Prow’ is a moodier affair. Skittering hihats & distant sirens echo through the mist, rounding out the collection in a heads-down fashion.

4 cuts of armour-plated techno, optimized for maximum warehouse utility — Powerplant Blue will be released 20/05/22 on digital download (vinyl TBA), distributed by Cargo Records.

« Founded almost four years ago, Le Motel’s Maloca Records has excelled in world-building as it tirelessly brings together some of the best and most innovative artists from different pockets of the club community around the world. This is showcased most notably through the compilation series which returns for its second volume on the 8th December as it combines both established and breakthrough artists.

Across 17 tracks, Maloca, Vol. 2 features both label family and exciting debuts with the likes of Farsight, Griffit Vigo, and DJ JM returning to the imprint. The rest of the compilation sees knockout contributions from the likes of Bambounou, Flore, Konduku, Tristan Arp, NVST, De Grandi, Neida, Cheb Runner, Malo2k, Leese, Ultima Esuna & Destrata, Mika Oki, M I M I and Space Drum Meditation. Whilst these artists may be from different cities across the pond, they all have something in common - they are leading the way for the next wave of club music. Whether that’s the riotous sounds of NVST, Griffit Vigo’s ever- evolving landscape of gqom, Tristan Arp’s signature insect-inspired soundscape, the emerging Brussels-based artists M I M I and Mika Oki or the trippy, introspective melodies of Konduku and Space Drum Meditation. Maloca, Vol. 2, captures a mind-melting moment in time.

The artwork is by Brussels-based painter Anastasia Bay who’s work presents a renewed vision of the human figure. Oscillating between abstraction and figuration, Anastasia Bay’s work is all about contrast and balance. The choice of a precise fragment of reality in her works dissolves any narration. »

Heya! Over the past weeks i’ve already teased this one a bit and due to lots of lovely responses I really wanted to share this one with you! Following up on last years self release of ‘Skandi’, this start of the winter I’ve done a flip of Fergies ‘Glamorous’. Hopefully this one will warm up the cold rainy days and bring some glamour to your day :)

Due to the tragedies unfolding in Gaza I’ve decided to donate the income for the track the first year to Artsen zonder Grenzen (Doctors without Borders). It's been difficult to watch the situation develop and I hope this is a good way of using my creative output to do something for the people in need. Ousmane is a friend of ours here in Freiburg, where he came as a refugee in 2019. He first moved from the refugee reception centre in Freiburg to a shared accommodation in Offenburg. This year, he then had to move to Renchen near Offenburg. As he is doing his apprenticeship in Freiburg, this means a 3-hour commute there and back every day. Ousmane would like to move to Freiburg and friends of ours have organized a room in a shared flat for him. But as he can't give notice for his shared container room in Renchen, he has to pay two months' rent. We therefore want to use the profits from this EP to support Ousmane during this time. The overall donation target is €2000 so that he can pay the double rent for 6 months.
