“THE BREMSSTRAHLUNG EP” goes all in right from the start with John Osborn’s remix. It is a grand cinematic affair thanks to its underlying pads & strings; the world of Sci-Fi is a favourite theme for the label owner, and with this work he paints a vivid post-apocalyptic environment in everything from the aforementioned pads to the oscillating rays of the melody and ceremonial-like percussion elements. Circular Rhythms’ original version of “BREMSSTRAHLUNG” is something wildly different. If Osborn’s version showed a Terminator-esque distopian scenery, Circular Rhythms’ clears all questions as to what caused it: a lethal radioactive acid jam in full funky force over a broken beat with the 808 pinging hard, letting you know what time it is on the floor. An adventure of a mischievous little droid broken free, spiralling like a supernova through the solar system. “A NEW KIND OF DAWN” lets a light shine on the listener, offering a new view. Tribal-flirting drums, aggressive claps and almost progressive sounding chords break the grey skies; swarms of metallic insects enter in the break, readying you for what is next. Circular Rhythms lets us enter a scorched jungle with “KINGFISHERS IN THEIR CAGES”: computer programmed-trance is flowing here in symbiosis with a rubberlike solid stomping drum, and what perhaps is best described as echoes of artificially constructed inhabitants of his jungle. Lastly, “MONOPOLE” rolls up with its bouncy electro- influenced melody, kept in check by the firm kick and definite snare. A brutish bassline sets out to tear the floor in half, like a rampaging sentinel, reminding the dancer to make the most of the experience before it is too late and the last track of the record is over.

Circular Rhythms has with his “THE BREMSSTRAHLUNG EP” produced an eclectic EP, dripping with futurism, perfectly capsuled into what is by now known as the trademark deep house-sound of DRED Records. Complete with John Osborn’s rework, you have a solid and diverse collection of songs in front of you, ready to work the dance floors for the second half of summer 2018.
