Silence

Moments" was born just when there seemed to be nothing left, when I felt alone and trapped in this forced solitude. And it is precisely in these moments that you begin to travel with your mind and memories, and you sit at the piano trying to relive those feelings now distant. "Moments" represents all those past moments, of serenity, lightheartedness, friendship, love, difficulty, sadness, loneliness; it is as if I had stopped to look at my past, my past moments, trying to make them "immortal" through my music. We start from the "Risveglio" to conclude with "Lullaby under the stars", a lullaby under the stars: I describe a "whole day" as a metaphor of my past and my journey.

The album cover depicts me locked in my room, and through the keyhole I look at what is happening, with the eyelid shiny for the sadness but also for the emotion in reliving the past moments. Right in that room I wrote "Moments", a set of emotions and memories, now fragmented, represented by the lines that break the image on the cover.
Having nothing left led me to reflect myself in the music, writing my "diary of memories".

안녕하세요, 작곡가 정재일입니다. 
2019년 한 아세안 정상회의의 축하공연을 위한 곡을 위촉받아 이 음악을 만들게 되었습니다.  어렸을 때부터 동남아시아의 여러 소리를 들을 때마다 잠자는 영혼을 깨우는 듯한 느낌을 받고는 했습니다. 고대로부터의 아름다운 그 소리들이 한반도를 지나 전 세계로 흘러나가 세상의 모든 영혼을 위로하고, 사랑과 온화함으로 가득한 세상을 꿈꾸게 하는 음악이 되었으면 했습니다. 

아세안 10개국의 전통악기 연주자들과 성악가분들께서 참여해주셨고 존경하는 작사가 박창학님께서 다음 세대의 아이들에게 전할 이야기에 관한 글을 써 주셨습니다.  이 음악을 위한 이미지는 장민승 + 정재일의 설치작품 ‘the moments (2012)’ 중에서 ‘Black Sunset’이라는 작품입니다.  또한 믹싱과 매스터링은 항상 제 음악을 마무리해 주시는 김병극 음향감독께서 맡아 주셨습니다.

아시아의 연대를 노래하는 데 있어서, 근대화의 과정에서 거쳐야 했던 외세에 대한 저항이라는 모든 아시아의 나라들에게 공통된 역사적 경험에서부터 출발하고 싶었습니다. 가사의 초안에서는 그래서 '전쟁에서 싸웠고 버텼고 살아남았다'는 식의 표현을 썼으나 정재일 씨와 곡을 완성해 가는 과정에서 조금 더 막연하지만 부드러운 표현으로 수정했고, 공연 영상을 보고 난 지금은 역시 그게 옳았다는 생각이 듭니다.
연대를 노래하는 또 하나의 축은 당연히 앞으로의 이야기가 되는데, 그 부분은, 앞으로 우리가 서로를 더 잘 알기 위해 노력할 것이고, 다음 세대들은 지금보다 좀 더 서로를 잘 이해하게 될 것이라는 희망으로 표현했고, 그것을 통해 과거와 미래, 그 사이에 이 노래가 있다는 테마를 담고 싶었습니다.
이 노래를 포함해 이번 한 아세안 정상회의의 개최와 관련된 모든 노력들이 내일의 아시아를 위한 한 걸음이 되기를 바랍니다.  - 박창학
