Meet VON RIU, a Paris-based DJ and producer who has rapidly ascended the ranks of the electronic music scene. Co-founding his label Jerry Horny with Maté in 2020, VON RIU has become a prominent figure with a distinct, omnivorous sound palette. His productions traverse a wide array of styles, from cinematic gloomy atmospheres to incisive trancy techno, clubby bass & break music, and modern progressive trance. Transitioning from a passionate dancer to a master behind the decks, VON RIU's deft mixing skills and adventurous electronic sets have earned him acclaim. His label, Jerry Horny, stands out with its corporate-businesscore vision, utilizing self-improvement and growth hacking techniques to bring together top names in the electro, break, and bass music scenes through a series of well-received compilations and EPs. We’re lucky to be able to connect with him, who’ve put together an incredible blend of tracks for our MIXED BY series, and have answered a few questions.

Maruwa blends trance, progressive house, and techno with a punchy energy that’s won her fans on dance floors worldwide. Her sound combines the mood of the ’90s and 2000s with a sharp modern touch. Now based in Frankfurt, she’s released on labels like Steel City Dance Discs and X-Kalay, and delivered remixes for artists including Dusky, Skream, Catz ’n’ Dogz, Azo, Denham Audio, and Subsism. From Robert Johnson to Intercell, Panorama Bar to Macadam, she’s known for sets that move between deep, hypnotic and high-energy.

This mix draws on the 2000s—not for nostalgia, but for the hypnosis. Dark tribal grooves, sleazy progressive house, and late-night tech with the feel of a burned CD-R from 2003. It’s playful, groovy, and a little weird—in the best way.

Guava returns to Faux Poly as the first artist to release a second EP on the label. Shifting gears into a faster, Techno-focused territory all whilst breaking up the EP with his immersive signature oscillating Dub-Techno-esque atmospherics. This new record is a departure from Afterglow, further embracing light and dark moods with a hypnotic intensity throughout that feels both urgent yet deeply considered.

This release opens a new chapter for Guava, as he embraces the weight and velocity of the dancefloor without sacrificing his signature playfulness. The result is a dynamic, high-energy follow-up that solidifies his evolving sound making ’All Out’ the perfect next step for both the artist and the label.

Words from Guava:

"This record was written in a flow state. For me, it was the most enjoyable EP I’ve made, and I think you can hear that in the music. It came about due to a slight shift in mindset regarding the creative process. I started by making an Ableton template as a way to limit my options. I spent a couple of days trying to nail a sound - referencing and experimenting with different instruments. I would then set a timer and “mess up” what I had created. The deal was that I could do anything I wanted.

This approach was a game-changer for me because it created a cohesive sound across all the tracks. A lot of my process was inspired by one of my heroes, Alexander Rodchenko, a photographer and graphic artist from the Soviet Union. What fascinated me most was the limitations he worked with - he didn’t have access to the fancy digital tools we use today. There was something about that constraint that I envied, and I wanted to bring a similar sense of restriction into my own creative process."

"Be Right There is the brand new three track EP from Kerri Chandler's ever growing MadTech Records. The EP features the tracks, Be Right There and Found The Rhythm, by leading garage-house producers Waze & Odyssey, as well as a killer remix by MadTech Records first born, Citizen.

Citizen takes the original a few shades darker, swathing nostalgic vocals with haunting synths, while his familar rolling drum beat rumbles below. The track builds to an intelligent breakdown with sensitive chords and samples until it drops in a sultry melancholic house beat.

Waze & Odyssey - Be Right There (Citizen Remix) (CLIP)

English Singles are a staple of Sacramento, CA's excellent DIY pop/punk scene. Featuring members of local legends The Bananas, Nar and Bright Ideas, English Singles mine a rich tradition of DIY pop that stretches from Swell Maps and The Television Personalities through to The McTells and The Sea Lions. Scratchy and home-made (but NOT lo-fi!), English Singles take pop back to the basics of catchy tunes, urgent guitars and sing-along choruses. Their live shows are frenetic and impassioned, with lead Single Scott Miller often seen wading into the crowd for some quality face-time with the fans.

Following up two fine singles on Slumberland and Squirmy, English Singles are back with this excellent three song EP. "Ordinary Girls" is a fine mid-tempo tune with a stick-in-your-head vocal melody and ace 12-string guitar leads. "Bitter End" is one of the band's earliest songs and live favorite, full of jittery guitars and rough-and-ready drums. The EP is rounded out by "Rain," a perfect slice of power-pop that clocks in at a brisk 1:53 but doesn't sacrifice anything in terms of energy, melody or excitement.

Back To Mono is the title track from the latest Boyd Rice / Non album.
Recorded at the Cold Cave studios in Philadelphia and produced by Wes Eisold.
The Bass guitar and paint stripper are played by Boyd.
