What does dancing mean to you?

" It’s quite primordial for me. I think that dancing in a dark place, on drugs, enveloped by a sound system really distilled the trance-inducing properties of dancing for me and solidified my passion/ need for it, but I also know everyone has their own relationships with it, which I find so special as well!  Dancing in general has helped to shed through so many hang-ups [ego/ pre-tension]. I remember how embarrassed I used to get when I was younger and my mom would dance in the grocery store isles when a fun song would come on. Now I’m so glad I do that too! "

As a Colombian artist based in Montreal, Daniel Rincon has taken many forms with other artists such as his Ambien Baby project with D.Tiffany. However, as his solo project NAP, he delivers an eclectic range of sounds the reflect his diverse music taste and upbrings which are evident in the multitude of deviate label and production projects he runs. For us, he has put together a wild sonic journey touching on influences from across the globe that tell the tale of "house of mud, with lots of love, strong foundations" ...

So pleased to welcome Pittsburgh based artist ADAB to the series with their second installment of "Dub Transmissions" ~ some words from them on the mix>>

"I wanted this mix to sound like it was coming from the deepest regions of space. A literal transmission (opposed to Vol. 1's more figurative name) from some far off starship where my black being is unbothered by Earth, it's bounds, and time. I selected tracks that I felt when sequenced together evoked the feeling of catching a chance radio burst from an unreachable place light years away that could break off into static and disappear back into the void forever. Everything in here for the most part sounds like it's coming apart at the seams a little bit, leaving you anticipating if this mix will fully disintegrate or evolve into something else..."

For this special Animix, Emily has put together a live/improvised mix, with Ngunawal/Ngunnawal/Ngambri Country over 2 days ~ with 'minimal intervention/mastering to offer a specific capsule of time, mind and space.'

This mix is sort of my personal take on downtempo, the majority of the mix is made up of 90s/early 00's goa trance records at 33RPM (pressed at 45). Fortuitously a large portion of these I obtained cheaply in Sydney while recording shopping with Danny Wild following a Moontown Records party I DJd in October 2019. Next up in our mix series is one we've had in the works for a while and comes from Chicago-based @nishkosheh, (aka. Alyssa Beers).

Alyssa is one of many bright stars in the burgeoning US dance scene, regularly appearing alongside names such as Kiernan Laveaux, Russell EL Butler and the Hot Mass crew - a scene known for genre-bending, tempo switching sets with an underlying sense of freaky late night exploration. Here they pivot between housey grooves, psychedelic chuggers and post punk without missing a beat. 

In their own words - "more than most, this mix marks this specific moment in time. i've got some new friends who've become major influences on my taste and don't know fully how much they push me, and i can see that coming through for sure. it's definitely a swirl of fast and slow. i love to  jam all kinds of tracks together, in this case i think it worked out but my biggest hope is that in the end you can tell that i'm having fun."
