So happy to be welcoming ĀBNAMĀ  ( @abnama ) to the Animix series for number thirty-nine! The incredibly genre-diverse Berlin based DJ is a co-organiser of DUMP, a queer rave that celebrated it's fifth year of life in 2020. Also a resident of another iconic Berlin queer party, Climax, she has been a feature of many euphoric nights in the Berlin queer underground. 

From the other side of the world, i've been enjoying her mixes for quite some time now, and I'm so happy to have her as part of the mix series.

Fortuitously a large portion of these I obtained cheaply in Sydney while recording shopping with Danny Wild following a Moontown Records party I DJd in October 2019. In 1992, Namlook created FAX as a means of releasing his own productions and collaborations. The label swiftly evolved into a huge stable for ambient-leaning artists of all shapes and stripes. The label was very much forged Namlook’s own image: catalogue numbers starting with PK signified a solo release, those with PS pointed towards other artists, and PW were reserved for collaborative exercises. Each of the releases were rarely printed in batches of more than 1000, building FAX’s cult cache considerably.

Namlook’s own work formed the bulk of FAX’s output, and runs to somewhere in the region of 130 albums. As you’d expect from a discography that capacious, it’s a highly varied collection. Alongside this 3 h 30 ambient mix, this mix shows an enormous body of work, a major achievement, and testament to a work ethic contemporaries could do well to learn from. If Aliens listened to music this is what they would be bumping in their spacecrafts.
