It was such an honour to be invited back to Basscoast to perform for a second year in a row - an invitation thats importance was not lost on me. A lot of DJ's shy away from day time sets, but to me, playing in the day and killing it is a hallmark of a good DJ. You can't go too hard or it won't fit the vibe, but if you don't go hard enough it can be boring. You really have walk a fine line. So shout out all DJ's who can play at all times of night and day, and the producers making the music and remixes that can fit a dance floor or a car ride home from the festival.

This years theme being "Reflection" I wanted to present an accurate portrayal stylistically of my last ten years as a DJ. Ranging the full spectrum of BPM and leaving to no stone unturned, utilizing new techniques and technology that only became available to me this year, and trying things on stage I've never tried before, I am very proud to present my set from Basscoast 2024 at the Cabin Stage on Saturday afternoon. If you were there, I hope this brings you back to a happy place, and if this is your first time hearing it, I hope you enjoy.

Civillian Live At Basscoast 2024

Calling it an honour to describe my return to Shambhala to perform at The Grove right after Lazy Syrup Orchestra had just opened the stage for the weekend would be taking it lightly. However, not many other words come to mind so I'll just get right into it. I am extremely proud, elated if you will, to be able to share this live recording of that beautiful Friday afternoon with you all. 

Thank you to Matt Diamond and Mark Woodyard for joining me and performing the vocals and guitar on the first song which was Matt's very own "Take the Ride" - I couldn't imagine a better way to set the tone and transition into my set. Thank you to Dunks for the perfect intro. Thank you to the FOH technicians for the excellent live recording, and of course keeping it dialled all through out the set on the day. Thank you to The Grove Staff and Managers for creating such an amazing stage. It's been a hot minute since I put together a mixtape designed for chilling out - so I put together some tunes I've been chilling out to in hopes of creating a couple of hot minutes for ya'll to vibe to. 

The initial intention behind this one was Valentine's day, but as the day approached, and my lack of valentine at present looming in the back of my mind, I wondered why I was doing this and it slowly evolved into something I can only describe as a love letter written to myself.

I know it sounds a little corny, but there are so many ways to give love in this world and we tend to hyper focus and romanticize the love that is given to a single other person. But love for the world, love for life, love for yourself - are all just as important. So this one goes out to everyone in the world giving the love they have, no matter the type, and hopefully it encourages a feeling inside you that fosters love for yourself and everything - because those that love it all are often the best lovers.

It also goes pretty good with dinner, the beach, backyards, rides home, last thing at night, first thing in the morning, with friends, with more than friends, or just vibing alone with you and you. Y'know, that sorta thang. I hope you love it as much as I do <3.

DJing is one of those things in my life where I find myself comparing myself to others, and often feeling like I fall short. It’s easy to get lost in comparisons and caught up in opinions. Then bom bom (bom bom dillim)… a series of beautiful people remind me that my light shines bright, and they celebrate when it burns instead of trying to extinguish it. Thank you so much for everyone that has supported and believed in me, you have no idea what a difference you make. Thank you for showing up, dancing, expressing gratitude, providing connections, and being present. Thank you to everyone who put my name out there this year and all of the beautiful folks that booked me for their events.  I love you! 

And an honourable shoutout and thank doodle for friends and muses like my dear Johnny Irwin (Civilian) who throughout my career and our friendship has constantly reminded me of my worth and that there is inherent value in being a SELEKTAH! Johnny, you are honestly so important to so many people and we are all so lucky to know you my dude! MY DUDE! SUMMER SHOULD BE FUN!!!

This set was the biggest surprise of my summer. 10 days before Shambhala, I was offered a slot at the new Riverside Stage. I wasn't even planning on attending this year. I've been waiting for an offer like this a reeeal looong time. I've only played Shamb once before in 2018 at the Village for the Ragga Jungle Rinseout with my homie Orilla (RIP). It is a cherished memory. So finally getting a full set was a dream come true and I am overjoyed to share with you one of the bucketlist sets of my career! I played at 5pm on Thursday so I didn't wanna bang it out or go too heavy, just happy and energetic. Felt like i was starting the party. I was working on a housey summer mix at the time which i kinda scrapped and turned into this set, so it starts off very summertime pool party vibes but then goes into all my favorite tunes I've been rinsing this summer.
