"On Interdependence" is a five part audio artwork that uses history, stories, sounds, and music to explore different perspectives and examine the threats posed by the climate crisis in Montreal. Each piece features a humanistic portrait of the city, its surroundings, and the lives that occupy it.

Recorded in 2019 and throughout the 2020 global pandemic, Extreme is the latest album by Berlin-based Swedish pop artist Molly Nilsson, released on @dsa-music / @nightschool.  Her tenth album, Extreme is also Nilsson's biggest, boldest, and most vital record to date.  It's an album about power.  Against the love of power and for the power of love. In May 1968, six West Indian students at Sir George Williams University accused their biology professor Perry Anderson of discrimination. Inaction on the part of the university leads to the largest student occupation in Canadian history. The events culminate in January 1969 with the police beating a student to death, the arrest of 97 other students, a fire in the campus's computer lab, and $2 million of property damage.

Discordia 01: The Sir George Williams Affair

In February 1999, the Concordia Student Union fails to get accredited as a legal representative of the student body because of low voter turnout. About a year and a half later they manage to get over 50% of students to vote for accreditation. Student movements against austerity and corporatism, as well as a push for food sovereignty have also started. 

This episode covers that story.

On March 8th 2011, Quebec's provincial government announced a 75% tuition hike for Quebec students. The move triggered a massive 8 month long general strike. It broke records becoming the largest student strike in Quebec's history and the longest student strike in Canada.

Mint Simon is the solo project of the magnetic frontperson of indie-pop band Caveboy. A theatre kid turned pop visionary, Mint exists somewhere between Ferris Bueller and Prince - fusing bold theatricality with infectious pop hooks and radical vulnerability. Their debut EP, Chimera, is a dive into identity, heartbreak, transition, and healing.

Mint appeared on Ashes to Ashes to talk about the EP, performing at Osheaga, and why bridges in pop songs are everything.

Vitalia is a queer Ukrainian-Canadian singer-songwriter, actress, and  DJ who thrives in front of the camera, on stage, and behind the mic. Her debut EP, alone in a crowd, takes listeners on an emotional rollercoaster through love, heartbreak, and self-reclamation. Across six tracks, the creation weaves a raw and cinematic narrative, fusing alternative pop, rock, and atmospheric soundscapes. With striking vulnerability and bold production, it captures the chaos of modern relationships — where passion and pain blur into one.

Vitalia appeared on Ashes to Ashes to talk about the EP, performing since the age of six, and crying at the club when no one's watching.

Franki is an emerging indie pop artist and self-taught producer. Raised in England on 2000s dance music, she moved to Montreal, where she was drawn to the city's blossoming pop scene and unique energy. Starting out producing in her bedroom, Franki spent a long winter honing her craft before taking her new material to audiences, testing out new songs and shaping her debut EP, “All The Things I Try to Say.” On her release, she explores themes of self-discovery, navigating life with a newly developed frontal lobe, and the blissed out chaos that exists within her.

Franki appeared on Ashes to Ashes to talk about the EP, her "undying love" for Lily Allen, and performing as Allen at CJLO's "Divas Live!" Halloween covers night for the station's annual funding drive.

Virginie B's irresistible quirkiness is matched only by her boundless creativity. The singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist offers a unique reappropriation of hyperpop by incorporating touches of nu-jazz, funk and R&B, complemented with a refined conceptual approach inherited from art pop and a pronounced taste for maximalism and glamour. Accompanied by her talented collaborator and co-producer Louis Jeay-Beaulieu, she applies this distinctive and versatile combination of styles to the exploration of her psyche, femininity, and relationship with technology and nature. The result is an outlet through which she expresses her desires and excesses without taking herself too seriously, reflecting her vulnerability and confidence.

Virginie B appeared on Ashes to Ashes to talk about the one-year anniversary of her latest album, Astral 2000, and 2025 being her biggest year yet as an artist.
