You might have skipped this news, as so much is going on. But it's huge (!)-- McGill law profs are unionizing (!!!!!), which is unprecedented in the 200 years of this university's history. Although that piece of information is incomplete: McGill law profs voted to constitute a union, and are currently seeking certification at the Tribunal administratif du travail... with McGill administration opposing it. So far, Provost Manfredi spent almost two full hearing days contesting the certification, on rather shaky grounds, and Dean Leckey is set to contest on the next hearing date, February 14th, 2022. Quite disheartening that it is our student fees $$$$$$ that are most likely covering their opposition.

We sat down for a hour-long conversation with Professor Evan Fox-Decent, interim President of the Association of McGill Professors of Law. Many topics were covered, among which a compelling explanation of the labour procedure our profs are engaged in, what a shift from a servant/master employment relationship to a union would mean for our profs and our faculty, and how a profs union might very well align with students' interest by decentralizing governance.

5. The 3 Fates, Strange Froots
Strange Froots is a trio of singers-songwriters, musicians and
beatmakers, comprised of Mags, SageS and Naïka Champaïgne. These 3
young women were brought together under NoBad Sound Studio to
participate in a women-run workshop, in the hopes of encouraging more girls and young women to express themselves musically in an environment dominated by the masculine gender. The supposed series of music workshops, turned into the forming of a band, each member being an artist in their own right. No Bad Sound a été créé en 2007 à l’initiative de la Maison des Jeunes de Côte-Des-Neiges avec l’intention d’offrir aux jeunes musiciens en herbe un lieu où ils peuvent développer leurs talents musicaux et s’exprimer artistiquement.

Endong moved to Montreal, Canada, in 2005 where he honed his craft as
a producer-beatmaker-scientist of sound. He released his first album,
Colored Dust Lite, (Atsie Sun Orchestra) in 2011 which led him to
write the score for “United States of Africa” experience virtuelle.
Influenced by African Tradition, Japanese Shinto and futuristic
sounds, #OKENG, meaning “SWORD” in his mother tongue Fang, and is an
initiatic journey into the African Culture through samples from Mvett,

Radical Research Mixtape - Convergence VII 2016

From December 4-7, 2016,  thousands of veterans traveled to Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and the Oceti Sakowin Camp, responding to a call to stand in solidarity with the water protectors organized to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline. As the veterans were arriving on December 4, the US Army Corps of Engineers announced that they would not be granting the easement necessary for the completion of the Dakota Access Pipeline or DAPL.  Days after Donald Trump was sworn in as U.S. President, he issued an executive order, directing the US Army Corps to clear the way for the pipeline. This last week, the US Army Corps of Engineers granted the final construction easement needed to finish the pipeline, giving the developers, Energy Transfer Partners, the approval to lay down  the final piece of the pipeline under Lake Oahe on the Missouri River, and leading to renewed protests and resistance against DAPL. The Veterans Stand community, which grew out of the first call to veterans to stand with Standing Rock, plans to continue to stand with the water protectors. Toni Torres is a US veteran based in Los Angeles, California who responded to the call to support Standing Rock, traveling to North Dakota last December. Lillian Boctor spoke to Toni Torres on December 6, 2016 at the Prairie Knights Casino and Resort on the Standing Rock reservation.
