(We Move) Amongst The Tribes is the first new Clairaudience song since their 2016 self titled album. Since then, Clairaudience have relocated from Brooklyn, New York City to Carlton, Melbourne (via Sydney). They’ve lost and gained band members; bye to Heidi and Franzi – and welcome to Chris (guitar) and Mick (bass). Mainstays continue to be Caroline and Danny. (We Move) Amongst The Tribes is the first release in a batch of new material recorded in February 2023 at Head Gap in Preston. The Head Gap session took place not long after Chris’s cancer diagnosis, at a time when being in Clairaudience was one of the few bright spots in his life. Fast forward ten months and a clean bill of health post-treatment, Chris and the band are looking for action.

Debut album ten years and 10,000 miles in the making  
If Thurston Moore, Chrissie Hynde, Moe Tucker and Marnie Stern formed a supergroup which played DIY spots in Bushwick it might sound something like Clairaudience. 
Based in Brooklyn but hailing from Australia, Europe and exotic Rhode Island, this indie four-piece (Caroline Jumpertz, Danny Jumpertz, Franzi Szymkowiak and Heidi Patalano), has been recording and gigging in NYC for three years in the lead up to this full-length self-titled album.
Clairaudience formed in Sydney in 2006. Caroline and Danny 
emigrated to the USA in 2010, kickstarting the current lineup with Heidi, Franzi and Kerrii Cavanagh. Kerrii departed NYC mid 2015 to return to Australia with her family.
The band shares a love of raw psych rock, new wave, post punk and the melodic punch of The Breeders. This debut was recorded with Abe Seiferth (Yeasayer, Eleanor Friedberger) between 2014 and 2016 at Transmitter Park Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
The hook-laden results recall Jonathan Richman’s Modern Lovers, Elastica, Ultimate Painting, Pavement and classic Oz/NZ underground sounds such as The Church and The Chills.

Six years after relocating from New York City, indie four-piece Clairaudience is ready to relaunch. Based in Melbourne, the core members, Danny and Caroline Jumpertz, recruited Danny’s brother Mick Jumpertz (bass) and Danny’s long-time musical partner-in-crime, Chris Smales (guitar) into the lineup, which began rehearsals in a dank North Melbourne basement in the gaps between the 2020-21 lockdowns.

Clairaudience’s 2016 self-titled album yielded the Spotify hit ‘Being Bad’. This full-length release followed on from their mini-album Sun Damage (2015), described by Atwood Magazine as “a psychedelic dream full of jangling guitars and a Phil Spector-like Wall of Sound”. Both were recorded with Abe Seiferth (Yeasayer, Eleanor Friedberger) between 2014 and 2016 at Transmitter Park Studios in Brooklyn. Caroline and Danny had emigrated to New York City in 2010 after gaining US residency via the Green Card lottery. But let’s backtrack a little…

Clairaudience formed in Sydney’s inner-west in 2006 as an improv–focused four piece and the house band at Danny and Caroline’s Feral Media record label and studio headquarters. A track from their 2007 debut, POWWOW 3, was described by critic Anwyn Crawford as “Joy Division on AutoSummarise: ominous, whiplash drums and dirty guitar form an instrumental loop so audacious in its imitation that it’s kind of great.”

Since returning to Australia in 2017, Clairaudience and Feral Media have been busy re-establishing in Carlton North and honing a new live set which is a blend of raw new wave and melodic post punk. The current line-up has blown away any Covid-induced cobwebs and is now ready to start performing live.
