Soho Radio 050 - January 2024

Detroit, Atlanta, L.A., London, Berlin.

For many musicians, these are dream destinations. For DJ and producer John Crosby, these are not just living spaces but the places that shape his musical worldview.

Growing up with Detroit funk radio as a youngster, his first DJ gigs began as his parents settled in Atlanta. 

He threw parties at the seminal indie venue Lenny’s and was one of the first residents at the Sound Table in ATL’s Old 4th Ward, home of the city’s best underground house and techno events.

His DJ sets soon straddled the line between dark and light, tough and beautiful. Stops in L.A., London, and Berlin soon followed, with gigs at small clubs and large festivals alike.

He’s done remixes for bands like Vampire Weekend and Fleet Foxes, and he runs the Honest Work radio show with Anja here on THF Radio in Berlin.

Trafford Guest Mix

Soho Radio 054 with Kith - May 2024

There's an old Brian Eno quote that is inevitably referenced when talking about the Velvet Underground - something along the lines of "They only sold 30,000 copies of their first album, but everyone who bought the album started a band". It's slightly inaccurate (they sold a lot more copies), but the message is clear: few bands have had such an outsized, potent, and wide reaching effect on the musicians that followed in their footsteps. 

Their stubborn desire to continually approach songwriting from the left field, and continuous sonic reinvention reverberated for decades, influencing punk, post-punk, art rock, ambient music, even notably influencing real political revolution in Czechoslovakia.
