I dug up so many great tracks from my past 4 years on Soho Radio for last month's show, that I had to get a few more on for my February show. You'll be hearing more of my all time favourites from Terr, Donato Dozzy, and Project Pablo, and one new one this month from Olive T.

First up for The Mix is Danny From Miami 🌴

@dannydaze takes us on a trip through Miami dance music history, diving into the irregular rhythms he grew up with and nodding to the new wave of flag-bearers. It also features an in-depth interview, exploring  his journey from childhood DJing to time in prison to rising up as Miami’s favourite figurehead, and the first explanation of the concept behind his long-awaited debut album ‘::BLUE::’.

"With this mix, my intention is to show a side of the IDM world I grew up with, steering away from the misconception that IDM is chaotic kitchen utensil-like sounds. I wanted to show a softer side focused on “danceable IDM” and electro. Music you can still bop your head to. As a youngster, I grew up dancing to non-traditional rhythms coming out of labels like M3rck, Schematic, and Beta Bodega, so I wanted to represent quite a bit of this Miami-infused sound along with some newer acts I’ve been immensely into at the moment," he says.

The Mix is our new online mix and interview series, dedicated to the spectrum of electronic music from around the globe, exploring sounds and stories from the early days of rave to the future. 

Mixmag has a long history of publishing mixes, from our legendary cover CDs accompanying the print magazine to our worldwide video streams in The Lab. Last year we celebrated 40 years in the game and The Mix now arrives as a fresh outlet to document DJs and the musical movements they represent, showcasing their sound alongside an in-depth interview. The design pays homage to a previous Mixmag logo from the ealy ’90s, nodding to our heritage while using the square and rectangular building blocks to construct an aesthetic that works cohesively with contemporary design elements and digital motion systems. 

We’ll still be bringing you the Cover Mix, The Lab and occasional sets in other formats, with The Mix is taking the place of our In Session and Impact features, intending to bring an updated look and vision to our flagship weekly DJ profile and sequencing them into one place, without separation. Moby got his big break in the '90s when he released the hit "Go" followed by the hugely successful studio album Play, which has been included in countless movie and TV soundtracks. But beyond the limelight, the US artist has also gone through immense struggle. Raised in a working-class family in a wealthy part of Connecticut, he often felt displaced as a child, eventually moving to a disused factory space to make music before finally relocating to New York and trying his hand at being a DJ. 

In this interview, Moby reflects on the early days of his time in New York. Rejected from all the record labels he sent his demos to, he felt like an outsider, choosing to frequent clubs like The Loft and Paradise Garage before finally becoming a resident DJ at the now-defunct club Mars. He also talks about living with panic disorder, anxiety, alcohol and drug abuse, and how he's turned his life towards activism and animal rights. Listen to the episode in full.

This month is all about Kith - the new party series I'm running with pal and phenomenal DJ, Trafford. We’ve called it Kith, an old english word for friends and neighbours, because it’s all about getting our dance music loving friends together. I'm playing the kind of stuff you'd expect to hear in my show, just the really fun, high-energy end of it. 

I've handed the last 45mins over to Trafford. She's recently supported Fatboy Slim and Greg Wilson, and has a music collection like no one else I know - her mix has some amazing tunes in it. I hope you enjoy it, and follow kithparty on Instagram to find out what we're up to...
