SOLIDARITY is a fundraiser compilation of electronic artists in the occupied Indigenous territories that constitute Canada who stand in support of the Wet’suwet’en Nation in their fight against Coastal GasLink’s movement to build a pipeline through unceded traditional territory. The intent is both to raise funds and awareness to the ongoing situation in the Wet’suwet’en Nation and Unist'ot'en Camp. 100% of proceeds raised from the compilation will go to the Unist’ot’en Legal Fund.

Hole In The Center (SOLIDARITY Compilation)

Under the heat of a blazing sun, French producers DEEjAY f and GRIG merge as one to open a sonic portal. In Dune Tune, lush instruments and airy soundscapes counter-balance the weight of a growling bass to unveil a soothing anomaly, an oasis from another world in an arid expanse.

SEED singles are individual tracks that are the result of a spontaneous association between two or more members of the Global URL Nation.

Emerging from the cross-pollination happening among the GUN community, they recombine musical genres and cultural backgrounds into a variety of sounds, producing new breeds and species in the landscape of electronic music. They blossom along the trail of the CLMxGUN journey, providing unique delicacies and brief satisfactions to be picked up and enjoyed in the moment.

Today, we’d like to offer you the last track premiere just before the so longed summer break. On the spotlight is MARTYYNA, a producer / DJ born and currently based in Prague, affiliated with the Blazing Bullets DJs collective, co-founder of the Illegal Taipei research hub and of the cutting-edge KSK events series in the Czech capital. Her debut EP, titled Awaken and developed around the deployment and dissection of traditional Asian instruments such as guzheng and erhu, will see the light on August 10th on the local BCAA system platform.

Already appeared on outcomes such as Eco Futurism Corporation, Unizone, ANBA, and others more with multilayered, textured gems of glitchy ambiance, rusty percussions, and dim melodies, her intimate approach to composition is enriched for the occasion by the use of her own vocals, appearing throughout all the record as the leading component together with the aforementioned deconstruction of string instruments.

In particular, MARTYYNA’s peculiar drive comes from her background as architecture/urbanism professional which led her to spend several years in Taiwan and other far-East regions researching local, illegal, and unofficial housing and the economic forces at play. Her creative outings are somehow suspended between a sense of tidiness and order and the unrestrained desire to create living, breathing sonic entities. The two components show up in a tense exchange where none of the sides prevail, enhancing each other instead.

Mastered by Dominik Gajarský, the EP comes with a neu-grunge cover by Igor Lorok, a visual artist and DJ based in Prague. Also involved with the KSK crew as the author of its graphic identity, his artwork for the EP is the fruit of a close relationship with the producer that brought them working together around the album concept.

As the title suggests, Awaken is a largely experimental work composed of five pieces that are focused on affirmation, inner discovery, acceptance of all the experiences – both painful and cheering – life throws our way, and how we manage to react and embrace them. In the words of Adela Sobotkova aka NEW MAGIC MEDIA, MARTYYNA’s musical approach “works with honestly admitted chaos, positively welcomed coincidence”.

We’re honored to share with you the eponymous album track, the keystone to understanding the whole EP concept, style, and motivations. As strongly introspective as any of the other four pieces, Awaken reminisces about the toxicity of sorrow and the cathartic power of pain, while affirming the courage of vulnerability and the will to manifest ourselves with no refrains. From a musical point of view, the track combines dreamy atmospheres, somber yet steady percussive elements, and layered vocal lines chanting wholehearted lyrics. “When you allow yourself to live your truth and also speak it without fear, then comes the liberating awareness that what doesn’t kill you will actually make you stronger”. HYPNAGOGIC SURGE (GEN043) by AMSELYSEN is a dense setup of signal interferences, of jacked up, spliced, reconstructed digital snippets, of outbursts whose amplitude overcooks the microphone's defenseless circuitry. Anxious with unreleased energy build-ups, the music is always pregnant with a double quality, something like a dagger made from ice, the possibility to shatter or crumble into a thousand shards combined with the looming threat of clean rupture posed by the blade's edge. Digital distortion is used here to unmask materials, to frontally attack them and expose their shimmering metallic face; pitch-time processing dilemmas get dodged by exploding into the high frequency gleam embedded but hidden in their algorithms. Completely removed from the "Lo-Fi" paradigm seeking warmth or nostalgia, the present degradation-reconstructions result in newly audible chirp figures, the sparkle of aliasing and the descent into the grainy territory of microscopic sound events. From a more panoramic perspective, these tracks are continually transforming contraptions, with looping frames accelerating, doubling, halting or stuttering, overloading, seemingly struggling to buffer, sometimes mixing with immiscible materials to form a glistening suspension of new sound material.

"Stemming from confusion, indignation, and feeling disoriented, Hypnagogic Surge appeals to dream-like lenses that reinterpret the everyday world; words lose clarity and are reduced to phonemes and their perceived energy, well-known advert jingles and hit songs are obfuscated and develop into undecipherable melodies, feelings ranging from relief to aggression flash quickly into succession without rhyme or reason. In the awareness gaps of the dream state, information is made up and averaged into confusing erroneous approximations — here translated in the poised presence of aural artifacts such as bad mp3 bit rate shimmer, 1/8in inlet pops, bad aliasing and interpolation, unshielded cable radio interference, fake stereo, inverted polarizing, etc 
Amselysen’s nightmarish interpretation of the hypnagogic state is heavily informed by tropes surrounding hardcore music, only this time the tropes are removed from their context and reimagined before reappearing into the album, thus resulting in a hyperreality; a simulacra of hardcore, intensity and dynamism. Remediating genres like punk, techno, metal, rap and noise through distant mimicry and radical sampling, Hypnagogic Surge approaches liminal reverie with a garish maximalist attitude."

Amselysen is Montreal-based intermedia artist Hakeem Lapointe’s latest musical project. It focuses on approaching experimental electronics with a critical lens, bridging the gap between conceptual spaces typically reserved to institutional practices and accessible aural aesthetics. Usually described as an outsider artist, never privy to the music academia and alien to most of the underground scene, Lapointe sheds all concerns for musical conventions and pursues their own sonic obsessions, which commonly sit in the leftfield genre. Their current work process ponders on indeterminacy, plunderphonics, hyperrealities, cultural foraging, and hypnagogia. 
Works, outside of their own visual practice, include scores and sound design for short films, performances and installations in various exhibitions, including the After Hours at the McCord presented under Kent Monkman - Shame and Prejudice: A Story of Resilience.
