Expertly curated by eclectic DJ's External Love; the compilation consists of eleven tracks hand-picked to reflect the spirit of warm summer nights by the sea. 'Paradise Lost' by Running Hot is an irreisistable mid-tempo balearic house groove; a touch of 80's style sprinkled across the production with it's crispy, punchy drums, soaring pads and gentle keys that combine for a heavenly ecstatic feeling. Attila and Szilard are Pleasure Voyage, a DJ and production duo hailing from Budapest. Since 2018 they have been curating and performing their love of balearic and disco music which has led to their debut release LP "Daydreams".  A wonderful collection of seven songs, "Daydreams" is presented on Prins Thomas balearic leaning sub-label Horisontal Mambo. Each track is as alluring as the next; and the LP carries a wonderous seductive musicality throughout. There is of course a nod to the past in it's style, but the album retains a contemporary feel with it's breezy and carefree series of tracks that are designed to be enjoyed under warm summer skies. The production is silky and polished, and with Prins himself providing a gentle guiding hand, it's sure to be an album that will see us through the long hot summer months and far beyond. We decided to contact all the artists that we came across in 5 years, whether they released on the label or not, and asked them for demos!

The quality of stuff we received was so brilliant that we moved from releasing a digital-only compilation to a vinyl record!

We are super pleased to introduce you to 8 tracks by 8 brilliant producers hailing from Tel Avi, Paris, London, Leipzig and Munich.

To compliment the music we asked Theo Cerri, a talented Italian artist living in Edinburg, to design the cover.

"Leftside Classics is a retrospective featuring some of the tracks that have meant the most to me over the last five years or so. These are the tracks that somehow always find a way back into my sets, tracks that rise above the transient and tracks that defy limiting genre pigeonholes. My sets have always been about joining the dots, celebrating the eclectic and supporting those tracks that exist in the rich hinterland between dub, funk, disco and house. Hopefully this retrospective captures that overriding ethos.

I've included a small selection of unreleased LW bits and a few exclusive versions of well known staples to keep things pushing forward too.

For Breathing Room’s sophomore release, the Toronto based label look to Swiss multi-instrumentalist Bixi to supply the goods. The German producer exudes warm and tropical vibes across the five track vinyl release entitled ‘Aquarius’. Rich in deft live instrumentation and clever sample work, an organic feel flutters through each track with bubbling water, forest-inspired atmosphere, ethnic percussion and gentle handclaps the order of the day. Once again the release is presented with beautiful artwork by 3D and visual artist Maks Pihs. Definitely a label to keep an eye on.

PREMIERE: Bixi - Bicho De Pé [Breathing Room Records]

Ethereal pads ease us above the clouds, then as the kick gradually takes over we are slowly but surely pulled back down to earth. As the sub bass enters the fray, our feet are firmly on the ground treading a familiar four four groove; reminiscent of the bleep/warp days of Sheffield and the skipping snares of Renegade Soundwaves 'Thunder.' In an almost pitch black warehouse, a solitary green laser skits across raised hands and swirling strawberry scented smoke. Spacious repeated melodies scatter in and out of the ethereal pads and cavernous sub bass give us a sense of hope to a better future.

Started as a local music community Serenades became a hotspot involving dozens of international musicians and DJs with podcasts and parties. True aficionados of music which lay between ethnic and electronic, Serenades have created a real oasis in Russian snow.  In 2019 Serenades continue their story with the first ever release – a big & eclectic compilation where every track is exclusively produced for the label concept by musicians from all over the world.  Shamanic ambient, percussive drums, slow industrial beats from the compilation clearly represent Serenade’s taste in contemporary world music.

If that isn't enough Crazy P's irrepressible Danielle Moore is drafted in to drop the sass all over it like only she can.  Sometimes a little fun is needed in music, this has got it in spades.

A strong horse gallops over the rolling hills of the Bittersweet Strasse. As the mysterious stallion chases across the sheer endless plains of oriental allure, it finally reaches the elephantine peak; where the Gulyabani Blues converges with a mysterious cordyceps species, whom are particularly abundant and diverse in humid temperate and tropical forests.

AS SMOOTH AS delivers a powerful debut on BELLY DANCE SERVICES. Concepted for worldwide belly dance fun, the Belgrade/Istanbul based producer Sertac Ogul takes us on a steady joyride through dark wavy synth loops, rolling percussions and intense drumbeats.

Nick Smith breaks cover from the sanctuary of his Clandestino guise and makes a long-over due, yet welcome return to his solo project as he delivers a humid, intoxicating EP for Phil Cooper's NuNorthern Soul outfit. 'Waves Take Hold' consists of three atmospheric recordings that richly mine influences from early Nineties utopian Iberian dance-floors to far away exotic islands. Here we spotlight the breezy 'Palm Cove'; languid hand drums marry with gentle marimbas as Nick's love of New Age motifs come to the fore. Delicate strings sit in the background while subtle field recordings add to the genteel atmosphere, perfectly capturing the ambiance. A summer highlight for sure.

Chris Stoker and Jamie Blanco's Ess O Ess outfit return for a fourth outing on their own Not An Animal Records with the Voice Inside EP, replete with classy mixes courtesy of The Backwoods atmospheric re-rub and Craig Richards stipped down, minimalist take. We plump to showcase the digital only Dub version; it's electro drums and scattered French vox set the tone immediately.  Delayed guitar chops and emotive pads elevate the atmosphere, as strobing bass synths provide an irresistable groove.

'Uncle Jungle' is a slow-burning, understated disco anthem that has been clamoured over in her sets of late. 'Exotic Shapes' builds slowly through a chunky disco groove to an irresistible arpeggiated bass drop. '1955' is a feel-good tropical belter. Top Pocket records returns with another robust and rounded VA for their second release. Eden Burns (Sandboards) provides two tracks on the A-side, plus a collaboration between Akira + Krywald & Farrer with Midnight Groove on the flip. Here we feature 'Moeraki Groove', an infectiously 90's Italo house anthem brimming with euphoric nostalgia. Floaty pads scurry alongside a solid house groove, heavily reinforced by an old skool dubby bassline. A natural progression from A1 this side of the press is for anyone who enjoys a dose of vintage 90s house.

Jazzy Couscous lay out thier strong intent for the year with a superb long player from French producer Matthieu Faubourg whose deep and organic brand of house has found comfort on labels from Sure Cuts, Neo Vinyl and W&O Street Tracks. ‘Simplicity Is The Ultimate Sophistication’ for Jazzy Couscous is rich in musicality and soul, with Matthieu' accomplished production chops allowing him to move effortlessly and confidently between breezy melodic jams and heads down club trax.  Here we feature the atmospheric and Detroit style house of 'Intense'; fizzing cymbals and tight drums drive the groove forward over mellow chords as a teasing female vocal invites you to let loose. PREMIERE: Matthieu Faubourg - Intense [Jazzy Couscous]

Clandestino’s own Nick J. Smith breaks ranks for a solo outing on the label, setting hearts aflutter with three balmy kaleidoscopic cuts. Each track is forged in ideas from the classic dream house era between 1988-’91; evoking the halcyon period’s sense of hope and positivity yet presented in a modern lustre for today’s dance-floors.

‘You Make Me Feel’ has tight crisp drums to underpin heavenly keys, woozy pads and choral voice stabs. Breese fleshes out the classic house feels even further with his Frankie Knuckles style emotive piano-led groove. ‘Gets Me High’ takes a deeper path, with its infectious bell melodies and sparkling chords driving the spirit along. Clandestino jack the energy levels with their edgier, acid take. Racing drums set out a moodier atmosphere, the tension swelling and eventually popping as the originals stuttering keys are finally brought in.  ‘Can’t Stop’ closes out in a dreamy style; swirling pads and cool organ touches combine with a seductive vocal to trance you out. 
This is a package that chimes with longer days and warmers nights, as the darkness begins to fade and pastel coloured skies draw near.

Clandestino have been involved in Leeds' underground music scene for over 20 years; regularly throwing diverse parties and inviting exciting DJ talent. Their esoteric style of dance music has gained them gigs at some of Europe’s premier club spots such as Renate in Berlin, Stalingrad in Paris, Geneva’s La Graviere and Powerhouse in Moscow in addition to being regular fixtures on the discerning festival circuit.
