CLAP RULES

1986 darkwave, minimal electro band from Rochester, New York. The lineup was James Tabbi (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jeff Gallea (bass, drum programs, vocals, keyboard), Jack Schaefer (electric guitar) and Dan Brumley (synths, samples, vocoder, melodica). They released the "Bas Relief" LP in 1986, only 500 silkscreened and hand numbered copies of the record were made which are now extremely sought after by minimal synth enthusiasts. This gem has a wonderful low-tech warm driving synth sound that is infectious. The vocals are haunting and the bass lines remind of Joy Division. Almost every song is killer dark post-punk or electronic synth wave. They seemed to take cues from Echo and the Bunnymen, early New Order, Fad Gadget, and Depeche Mode. Songs like Watching Trees, Tears and Cinnamon, Portugal, Ignorant Father, and Temporal deserve to be heard. Timeless."

Brynjolfur - The Save EP

Faroese DJ and producer Brynjolfur is one of the leading lights of the Danish club scene, with energetic performances and a charmingly personal musical style. Having dropped the sun-drenched Chain Glass EP for Hamburg’s hafendisko at the height of the summer, he returns to the label fold once again with the shimmering disco delights of The Save EP.

"The Save" is an instant mash-up hit, combining disco cowbells and shakers, vintage house piano chords and rhythms, with the finely-tuned wispy vocals of synth pop. It hits the ground running, and build towards a big bright house breakdown that combines skilled songwriting with Brynjolfur's clubbier roots. 

"Time" takes an entirely different tack, emerging with a slow, brooding electro stomp at sultry tempo; it blossoms into instrumental track of cinematic proportions and suspense, that shifts into a cosmic-influenced beauty by the track's end.

Two sterling remixes round out the EP package, starting with a Dub Mix of "The Save" that gets it rough and ready for the dancefloor: the distinctive melody takes on a deeper unified tone, and new acid house elements get pushed to the fore; then a Kasper Bjørke remix of "Time" reworks it in the distinctive style of the deep nu-disco master, adding bright, uplifting melodies, but retaining the original track's slow, sultry tempo.

The dot keeps getting bigger. Huge, blue and pulsing. It just suddenly appeared. As if it had walked around the corner of some fold in the fabric of space. Or been uncovered by the wave of a hand. Just starting, then stopping in the same place. Floating light. “Help.” The recording came through. The dot keeps getting bigger. It engulfs everything and then we double. Refracted through the heart of a star. Suddenly there are two of all of us. Talking in unison. Finishing each other’s sentences. We all remember the same thing. No way to tell who was here before. Or who is new. A copy of every soul. Some of us had visions. One by one, we suddenly start dropping dead. The deceased are jettisoned, but we can’t be sure if it’s the copies dying or the original crew. Then we start hearing the voices. Replacing our own thoughts. Speaking a language we don’t understand. Lovely new words. One by one we submit and give up our bodies. One with the angels. As my lungs collapse in my chest I reach the transmission console.

Clap Rules - Fantasmi

Clap Rules is the new pseudonym of Fabrizio Mammarella, Andrea Gabriele, Max Leggieri and Michelangelo Del Conte: who in their own words “make experiments with dance music”.

After well received EP’s for labels like Tiny Sticks & Dissident and remixes for DFA artist Michoacan, 
New York’s In Flagranti and French electronic music pioneer Etienne De Crecy, they have caught the attention of DJ’s and music lovers from many different scenes.

With a deep love for vintage equipment and recording techniques they mix this up with a fresh modern approach to concoct electronic music with no boundaries.

In 2014, singer René Love, originally from the San Francisco bay area who also releases Voodoo Tunes with Producer Thomas Bullock (Rub N Tug) under the name Tom Of England and Bobbie Marie on STD Records Uk and California based Psyche Rock Group Silent Pictures, joined the band.
