Mary Lake’s sonic charm, askew rhythm appreciation and head twisting electronics weave together in the latest downtempo audio submission for Off-Kilter. 

Crunchy, squelchy synth lines and celestial pads move together in and out of sync, broken kicks fall behind the beat, percussive delays accelerate, flicked with vocal traces and submerged textures. Not one to miss.

Mary Lake: a sonic adventurer. With an international upbringing in Algeria, France and The Netherlands, she seeks a voice through her music, translating inner dynamics in both club and exploratory settings.

As a DJ, Mary Lake serves up unorthodox techno that defies convention. Her sets are an irresistible invitation to dance that echoes in both the underground haunts of De School and the revered techno temples of Bassiani, Tresor and Berghain.
A familiar face in the Amsterdam scene, she holds residency at Spielraum. Her live sets, such as at Dekmantel Festival and Positive Education are hypnotic yet brimming with an infectious energy that keeps the audience on the edge of their senses.

In the world of Mary Lake, music comes under the medium of storytelling. Her signature is an ever-evolving and forward-thinking sound that pushes the boundaries of genre. Adding to her repertoire, she counts several releases, including her debut EP on Nous’Klaer and an eagerly anticipated second EP forthcoming on Dekmantel.

I'm very pleased to announce my new show on 90mil Radio, from Berlin.
Please Leave a Message After the Tone aims to share feelings, ideas, insights and, naturally, the music that scores my existence in this body, this world, this Universe...

The first episode, aired Jan 11, 2025, is a special one. It is the birth of a long-time idea that required a special moment (such as the last full moon of the year of the dragon) to come into being.

This show was inspired by a mix done by @thetruemcmlxxxv for @community-bread which had such a strong, positive impact in my life when i ran into it in 2022. Immediately it became an essential resource to manage my faith in 'the way things are', embracing acceptance and presence as a way of life. The aforementioned mix has, unfortunately, been removed from the soundcloud airwaves and for the longest time, I was guttered –– the impact the last track of the mix had on my emotional self was so powerful that I coulnd't believe I would never listen to it again except through my memory! 

Then, the universe sent me a sign: going through my archived music for a gig, I bumped into this track -- Post Mortem, by Quadratzschultz. The time had come for me to dare make my own version of the mix. 

Here it is. 
Featuring readings of the Tao Te Ching (the book that informs taoism) translated and delivered by Stephen Mitchell.

It's a vinyl-only session, with its shacky transitions, but error is part of the game, essential to improvement, and should also have its place in the cloud.

This episode aired on the 28th of June 2025. It's the first message to feature the music of a guest: @lelieamens comes from the southscapes of Portugal and he's one of the most dedicated people I know. Music, free party culture and care as an activist practice are some of disciplines that drive João Amélio; constantly looking to improve and evolve, like a river that becomes an estuary, inspired by the fluidity of its margins, Fluído is his latest project, and this his latest live – an abridged version of it. 

The full experience can be had in clubs and free parties all over Portugal. We'll share the booth at @outracena soon. Stay tunned :)

This show helped me make sense of everything, and sometimes sense doesn't have to be made with words or concepts, but can be through music.

"In school, you learn the lesson and then you do the test. But in life, you go through the test, and then you learn your lesson" -- those words on this show's opening track summarise it quite well.

Lesson learned, time to celebrate the new conquered inner freedom. Yes, joy and connection are forms of resistence in a society that wants us apart. Music and dancing do that to us. I'm super honoured to contribute to this.
