Introducing JUMEX 🧃 my live set for @papijuice 9th Anniversary and @elsewhere debut 

For this set I really wanted to summarize the experience I have had with papi juice since I moved here a little over six years ago. I added in tracks that bring a lot of memories that I’ve had at papi and merged it with new music from childhood. A Mexican rollercoaster to say the least. 

I started the set with some pre hispanic beats (one of my fav genres) and I take you through some reggaetón, reggae, tribal, guaracha, and obviously ended with techno (to name a few).

In Hour 2 we hand over to Moire, who recently released his debut album 'Shelter' on the Werkdiscs label run by Actress. It's a mix recorded and remixed live on a hardware sampler and features music from Kerri Chandler, Rongetz, Space Dimension Controller and Aphrodisiac.

Following 2020’s ‘Fall in Love with Yourself’ — a screwed concrète rework of Eartha Kitt’s famous ‘relationships’ interview — M. Quake makes an auspicious return on Valentine’s Day, this time channelling Annie Lennox’s bittersweet ‘Little Bird’ into a long-form, laid-back and echo-laden groove, with lyrics and vocal accompaniment courtesy of Jonnine.

A major player in the Melbourne/Naarm underground scene, Tarquin has released an array of solo music (LST, Silzedrek, Static Cleaner Lost Reward); co-produced albums with YL Hooi and Carla dal Forno; played in cult groups Kallista Kult and F ingers; and appeared on labels like A Colourful Storm, Low Company, Blackest Ever Black and Efficient Space.

Leif Knowles is a rare talent. And if you trace the contours of our shared history, you’ll notice that, yep, we’ve been supporting him since day one - when the then fledgling producer was getting noticed with his minimal output before later making deeper, house cuts for the likes of BL and the Fear of Flying imprint. As a business, we fully appreciate that artist exist to develop and evolve to explore new regions of musicality and that’s exactly what Leif did himself last year when he released his debut album, Dinas Oleu. Described by online music portal, LWE, as an album that "entrains the listener into Leif’s distinct sonic world systematically", it saw the Welsh producer take a step away from the dancefloor persuasion and present a more atmospheric approach to his productions. 

Aside from co-running the vinyl only UntilMyHeartStops label, Knowles - who is also a core member of the much beloved Freerotation festival - represents a deeper understanding of the four four, something that, much like us, the Hessle Audo crew fully salute him for. So it came as no surprise when the collective invited him to join them for their full club takeover on Friday 5th December alongside a slew of other special guests. What did come as welcome surprise however, was the fact that Leif graciously handed in an exclusive mix that so fantastically explored the contents of his record box…

Two groundbreaking labels shape this journey: B.YRSLF Division and Worldwide Unlimited. B.YRSLF, founded by Taoufik Allabouch (aka Daryll), was an international platform for fast bass music, with deep roots in juke, early grime, and experimental sounds (hosting early releases from artists like Ducky). The label, along with its sister imprint Widad, ceased operations in 2015 but left a lasting impact on the leftfield bass scene.  

Meanwhile, Worldwide Unlimited stands as a key force in hard drum’s rise. The label has introduced boundary-pushing artists like Nick Leon, Henzo, and BFTT, carving out a space for post-juke innovation.

Neophyte, for sure, and these are all my newly found treasures, that I have dug up from around the world.  One day I will produce some tracks again, until then, I will spend every minute listening to all the newly found gems!
