Clara de Asís & Rebecca Lane "Distances Bending", live at Sonic Acts Biennial, Amsterdam 15 Feb. 2024.

As a duo, Clara de Asís and Rebecca Lane gather around the investigation of perceptual space, collaborative processes, and the development of pieces that are, more than settled compositions, elastic systems for ceaseless states of becoming. «Distances Bending» is their long-term project, which takes different forms in specific contexts and configurations in their exploration of harmonic and time proportions. Considering the most elemental aspects underlying the geometry of the harmonic series, one continuously rising sonic object (chord) undergoes a process of transformation and illumination as it travels from low to high, integrating a progressive complexification of frequency relationships.

'Banshee' is an ear directed towards the edges of the old world, where these infinite fines terrae cut and fractalize into coasts, harbours, fjords, peninsulas and archipelagos. Drawing its raw material from recordings made in the Inner Hebrides, Banshee tightly weaves a fabric where the sonic avatars of fauna, flora and climate merge with the human presence, its tools and its culture. Thus, a small boat cleaving through a loch becomes the voice of the mountains and wilderness, and the howling of the wind on the moors becomes the lament of a Banshee, harbinger of death, messenger of the Other World.
 
The piece unfolds in seven interwoven moments:

First release in a new multi-part series of solo releases by the Wolf Eyes frontman. An evolution from the previous Regression material, taking in elements of classic synth soundtracks, ambient and electronic body music, but filtered through a typically off-centre Michigan underground sensibility. 

In the Regression series–Regression (2009), Stay Asleep (2011), Other Days (2012), Blinding Confusion (2013)–Young drew a compositional aesthetic from Italian library music and musique concrète. Since then, Young has been interpreting the traditional musical methods of rhythm and melody into complex synthesizer compositions. These songs were commonly made as a distraction from grief, seasonal depression, and isolation. Sometimes severely ridiculous and unrelenting; other times slow, sparse and strange; this material didn’t fit in with the Regression series. It was archived and unreleased until now. Nate Young Volume One: Dilemmas Of Identity will be released February, 2019 on Lower Floor Music.
