2025 DEMOS / SKETCHES

Wrote this one on Sunday after feeling particularly inspired. Bought the Korg M1 plug-in and realised I'm not that shit of a writer, I just hadn't been investing in myself and buying the good tools / sounds. Gonna buy some more soon. It was really warm and I was looking out of my window all day & watching the sun set. Then after writing the initial idea and lyrics which are about how skin glistens on the dance floor, I went through to look out the window on the other side of the house and the moon was big and orange. A beautiful example of serendipity. Nothing better in this world than making a new track you love. Haven't felt this feeling in years and I really needed it. Lyrics below:

SKETCH 001 - MOONLIGHT

Quite proud of this one - downloaded the Roland TB 303 and let's just say I fell in love. It's allowed me to be so much more creative and approach this track so differently to how I've previously written before; I didn't really need to think about chords, only ways to fill the gaps and add interesting textures and sounds so creating it felt very liberating. It's been so long since I've written so freely. 

I also invested in a proper studio standard vocal chain over the weekend - (I'm broke now lol) - but it's also transformed the way I come up with melodies. The extra oomf lets me sing softer and again, more freely - I'm not restricted to melodies that require power and in turn I feel like the harshness in my voice that has always irked me is less noticeable. It also meant I was confident enough to add the 'Moto Caliente' motif because I knew I could now make it sound textured and cool (thank u echoboy and rc 20).

Got stuck for quite a while figuring out how to lighten it in the second half enough to bring in a nice melody but still wanted to keep the darkness and the acid line, but feel like I made a breakthrough this morning so I'm going to leave it here as a sketch. Not sure what the B section / chorus needs to sound like cos I'm ear tired now - which is a sign to park it and move on to the next idea!
