As it progresses it becomes stripped down to its various components and then reassembled into 4am acid melodies and a pounding low end. This tune starts with a floating synth that leads into a main arpeggio. The pulsating bassline is accompanied by subtle pad swells that add depth to the sound. The controlled chaos builds up to a simple yet effective drop.

There is beauty in simplicity; when tracks only have a handful of samples yet bring the groove it is a credit to the ability of the producer to pick the best elements and reduce the layers to only include what is necessary. That is exactly what Ghita Liviu did here, in a way only he can. The vocal has been utilized as a percussive element and an additional bassline drops after the main bassline, giving the track the drive to move the dancefloor.

All about the rhythm, this track starts with mechanized percussion and a heavy bassline that sets the tone for the rest of the track. Deep-seeded in the eclectic realms of  San Diego and Tijuana, KARMA cultivates his mind, body, and soul with the sounds of dark-tech and dark-techno. His love for music catapulted him into the umbral of the house and techno scene. He currently plays an active role as both artist and deejay in the SoCal and Northern Baja regions where he executes a dark-mental project known as DIVINITY. This creation was born out of musical displacement within the San Diego scene. Nurturing the darker vibes of techno and tech, KARMA seeks to heal those who need healing. His mediums are auditive and visual frequencies expressed through the arts. This is KARMA.

Each month we have a guest join us on the decks for an impromptu mix - this session features Bass Exotic aka John Reynolds, a house and techno artist from San Diego. His sets are deep and groovy with sexy melodic tones meant to infect the soul and move the feet. He has many influences but what's important to him is that his track selection are curated for feelings. Music with emotions is what helps him connect to the crowd and keeps his dance floor busy. 
     
  'When you can connect emotionally, through music, people remember how you made them feel and can remember that moment infinitely - it can be very powerful'.

Each month we have a guest join us on the decks for an impromptu mix - this session features one of our favorite DJ's and all around amazing human being Lee Reynolds. 

Just as rave culture was making its first waves in the UK in 1988, a mad English kid named Lee Reynolds rode his BMX bike across the Atlantic to Los Angeles, carrying with him dreams of big air and sunny skies. He was as wild then as he is now, it’s just that on two wheels, Reynolds’ lack of abandon resulted in broken bones, not broken beats. In 1992, he limped off the ramp one last time and soon found himself lost to electronic psychedelia, and thusly one of the West Coast’s finest DJs began his path to the Desert Hearts movement and the hysteria he now conjures with every performance.

Now, a quarter century later, Reynolds has a lifetime’s worth of experience bringing the weird and the wonderful to the dancefloor. He earned his chops up and down the West Coast in the dance scene’s dustier institutions––Moontribe, Moonshake, LiB––That’s where he developed his endlessly wide palate, penchant for mysticism, and an understanding that a dance party should be a spiritual experience.

“When I DJ, I want people to feel ecstatic, in a zone, in the moment, like the only thing that matters is the dance,” he says. “I don’t want to play music that people can dance to, I want to play music that makes people dance. I want it to sound like aliens are about to land on the dancefloor.”

In 2011, It was an encounter with a plucky bunch of San Diegans barely out of their teens that was the calling Lee Reynolds had spent his whole life working towards. Alongside Mikey Lion, Deep Jesus, Marbs, and Porkchop, Reynolds formed Desert Hearts and the rest is history in motion. Over the past three years of bi-annual renegade ragers and relentless touring, “Papa” Lee Reynolds has developed into the patriarch of the fastest growing and most visible cultural movement in all of stateside dance music.

“My real role in Desert Hearts is more on a spiritual level, making sure we spread a positive message and do the right thing,” says Reynolds. Wise words, maybe, but behind the decks, Reynolds is a maniacal presence as he channels his past lives, tastes, adventures, and perspectives into a dancefloor magic that captures you upon first beat and does not release: House, techno, acid, and breaks, they’re all conjured up in a plume of purple haze and that little mad bastard is at the center of it all.

Dance music now is so often about fast rises and immediate gratification, but Lee Reynolds’ story is a reminder that some beats taste better when slowly fried over the course of 25 years. “I’ve been obsessed with this shit forever and I’ve always believed the madness was coming,” says Reynolds. Well, the madness has commenced, and it seems like it’s here for good––and Lee Reynolds is conducting the score.

Each month we have a guest join us on the decks for an impromptu mix - this session features Ivano.

iváno Is an electronic music producer born in the border town of Tijuana, Mexico and is now based in San Diego, CA.
 
During his teen years he experimented with a handful of genres but with a great influence from Depeche Mode and other new wave/synth-pop bands he found that electronic music allowed him to break boundaries and to incorporate new sounds and production techniques.
 
This led him to create a fresh and unique sound with dark melodies that envelops you in a cloud of Dreamy Techno evoking a sense of vulnerability with the use of synths and heavy bass lines: "I try to recreate in sound astral dreams" says Ivano when asked about his deep, spacey and emotional melodies. His style of retrofitting production, using analog and digital synthesizers, gives auditory form to complex emotions.
 
He has participated as a DJ at Desert Moon and Desert Hearts being considered by Resident Advisor as "one of America´s best electronic music experiences." He has shared stage in 2013 with Maelstrom in Mexico City, and is well known in the electronic music scene in the Tijuana/San Diego area.
He has remixed for: Mirror Pop, Microesfera and Machino.

Rhythmic Classics have been the driving forces for this Southern California import from Cali, Colombia. Paulo's vision for music is rooted in his passion to integrate cutting edge production technology with his more traditional Latin roots and other musical influences in Jazz, Blues, Soul, Disco, Hip Hop, Rock, and Funk. Paulo’s minimalistic, raw, and forward-thinking approach to House and Techno music have laid the way for releases on Lethal Dose Script Label, Surface Recordings, and Cubek Records.

Paulo has had the great fortune to hold DJ residencies in two of the most beautiful places on Earth: Tokyo, Japan & San Diego, California. His honest and radiant energy as a performer has also placed him as a collaborator in several underground music projects throughout the Southern Californian region. Most notably, Paulo is a co-founder of Artifact Record Shop based in San Diego, California alongside House music notable Brian "Halo" Varga. He also assists with Halo's newest project, the vinyl-only record label Muted Noise Recordings as the imprint's Record Label Manager. Producer Ra.Mod has been his main partner in releases on both Cubek and Lethal Dose. 

Keep an eye out for more collaborative projects as 2017 rolls around because Paulo never stands still for long.

Born and raised in San Diego Californina, Armando Castillo and Erick Martinez make up the duo known as Mad Waves. Both sharing similar taste and musical influences it is no surprise that these two came together to form this project. Knowing each other since grade school the chemistry and vibe they share together is felt instantly. Opening for artists like : Andre Crom, Climbers, Droog, Sian,  Harvey McKay, David Scuba and Shaded  has made these music selectors hungry and focused for the future. Each month we have a guest join us on the decks for an impromptu mix : although just 22 years of age, Dylan Payne has been DJing and producing longer than most of his elders. Growing up listening to artists such as Boyz Noize and Ancient Methods naturally led him to local San Diego techno warehouse parties. This is where he felt most at home and soon decided that he wanted to turn his passion for music into a career. On a daily basis, you can find him hiding out in his studio working with analog synths. With releases on Tribe Out West and the newly founded San Diego based label, Hood Politics Records, expect to see a lot more from Dylan Payne. This mix does a good job of showcasing his thumping, yet groovy warehouse sound.

Each month we have a guest join us on the decks for an impromptu mix - this mix features Taylor Houseman. We've known Taylor for awhile now and have a ton of respect for his work ethic, dedication, and skills on the decks.  

Deep, groovy, and soul-stirring are some of the keywords that come to mind when listening to Taylor Houseman’s selections. His ability to work the crowd is embedded in the fact that he was raised in a music influenced home which helped ignite his passion for a more developed sound. His affinity for hip-hop while growing up has contributed to an extensive taste for music as his “select cuts” are catered to where he is playing, and being the music enthusiast that he is, he is able to tailor his style on the fly. As a San Diego native, he’s been able to participate in a plethora of events held at bars, clubs, warehouses/after hours, cafés, art galleries, and all kinds of special events throughout San Diego and Tijuana. Taylor Houseman is not a rare name to come across when looking at weekly events in SD as he is also part of many collectives such as Divinity, Techit Easy & Mindfruit.

Class-A Deviants was formed in 2007. While their overall soundscape is dark techno, they create unique atmospheres by incorporating the lost art of storytelling into their mixes and productions. The Deviants believe that a driving beat is essential, yet they never hesitate to stray from convention. Their main inspiration is the family they have found on dancefloors worldwide – the greater community of music seekers who lose themselves in the morning hours, reveling in the primordial love of the drum. They have released records on Degrees Ov Separation, Desert Hearts Black, Underdub, Denied Music, Minimal Sessions, Optimal Sonance, BugCoder, Sequel Sound, and Listen_React, to name a few.

Notable gigs included the Desert Hearts Spring Festival, Monarch in San Francisco, and the Wherehouse in Tijuana. They also opened the Kalliope Art Car at EDC Las Vegas 2017 as part of the Desert Hearts takeover. Boombox Art Car EDC 2021, and completed a mini-tour of Texas with labelmate Llama A.
