Joe Perry has been talking to Classic Rock about his solo track I’ll Do Happiness, which appears on this issue’s free cover-mounted CD. The Aerosmith guitarist had already tapped Iggy Pop and David Johansen to sing on the record, but in the end went for an often-overlooked British powerhouse. 

“I’d heard a Terry Reid record in the 1960s and it blew me away. They called him Super Lungs, and you can hear why,” Perry explains. “But I never got the chance to hear much more than that record and he dropped off my radar. While working in the studio [producer] Jack Douglas said: ‘What about Terry Reid?’ I replied: ‘What about Terry Reid? Are you fuckin’ kiddin’?’ I hadn’t heard his name in forever. But he came over and he’s still singing like a legend.

“I told Terry he could change anything he wanted, but he just started writing lyrics and we didn’t change a thing,” Perry says of the song, which also features Zak Starkey on drums. “It sounds like it could have been written years ago; it’s got a real groove.”
