This composition was inspired by a reading of the poem, "The Swan" by Mary Oliver.

The Swan

Did you too see it, drifting, all night, on the black river?
Did you see it in the morning, rising into the silvery air -
An armful of white blossoms,
A perfect commotion of silk and linen as it leaned
into the bondage of its wings; a snowbank, a bank of lilies,
Biting the air with its black beak?
Did you hear it, fluting and whistling
A shrill dark music - like the rain pelting the trees - like a waterfall
Knifing down the black ledges?
And did you see it, finally, just under the clouds -
A white cross Streaming across the sky, its feet
Like black leaves, its wings Like the stretching light of the river?
And did you feel it, in your heart, how it pertained to everything?
And have you too finally figured out what beauty is for?
And have you changed your life?

Del Carry is a composer and musician who plays contemporary classical, film music, jazz and some rock and blues. He plays piano, Bb trumpet, C flute, EWI wind controller, guitar [electric and acoustics and a wide range of virtual sampled instruments as well as having played in a few jazz-rock "Chicago" type live bands]. The pieces offered on SoundCloud are a very small sample of over 450 compositions.

If you are so inclined, I would also encourage any constructive criticism of my music. If my music does not fit in your musical taste and experience, it’s probably not wise to comment, but if it does, and you notice obvious things that I have overlooked or I could do better, I am open. It does not take long to lose one’s objectivity when hearing the piece possibly hundreds or times. 

But please be kind. I may not always agree, but will appreciate your effort, care and feedback.

Dan lives and works in Chicago, IL USA. He is  a former research scientist  who now runs his own computer consulting business. Recently he shot and edited the independent short film Catching Broken Glass, written and directed by his friend Terrell Holden (youtube). But, most important of all is that he is married to Evelyn who is an incredible, witty, wonderful woman,  Evelyn who  teaches Tai-Chi in Evanston and Willmette, and is at ease with Ethnic Cooking. Not surprising because she used to give Ethnic Grocery Tours in Chicago.
