Hailing from Durban, South Africa, the trio Omagoqa consisting of Andile Mazibuko (Ma_A), Franco Makhathini (KB) and Njabulo Sibiya (Chase), are the vanguard of a new generation of artists ushering in a new wave of Gqom.

Calling their take on Gqom ‘uThayela’ & ‘Is’qinsi’,  it's a rougher sound with a harder bassline that it is made for clubs. ‘uThayela’ translates literally to “corrugated iron” which you find being used as roofing material on most South African homes), while ‘Is’qinsi’ is described as an infusion between ‘uThayela’ and the electronic sounds generally associated with the influences they incorporate from electronic music genres from outside of South Africa. 

Having been together for over 10 years, the trio have worked alongside some of SA's biggest artists, including a recent run of collaborations with titans such as DBN Gogo, DJ Lag & Dee Traits, but also collaborations with UK legend Scratcha DVA, showing that ten years into their career they barely just begun.

His work is characterized by exploring and transforming Latin American music, especially Ecuadorian native sounds and rhythms. He mixes them with ambient, bass, grime, and club music, achieving a nontrivial dope effect that you will surely feel in the mix below. His music is filled with rich textures, deep basslines, powerful drums, and dark, hypnotic melodies. Entrañas frequently collaborates with prominent artists in the industry and has released his music on labels such as Tratratrax, CTM, NOFUTUR3, NAAFI, Traaampaaa, and many others.

Scorpio Red is pleased to announce the release of Zeynep Ağcabay’s second EP, out on the 7th June 2024.

The Turkish born, London based artist’s 4-track release ‘Memories from the Future’ re-frames memory as a non-linear plane of time: visions and sounds collected from “memories” that are yet to occur but feel already lived. An effort to merge her self-titled spiritual folk project with her former ambient pop moniker mea0u, ‘Memories From The Future’ evokes a cyclical, nostalgic and trippy dream sequence. Distorted vocals, a nod to heavy exposure to Western pop influences, meet with samples of Turkish Ney flute and percussion reminiscent of "home".

Mexican record label, Naafi, settle in at NTS for a showcase of the weirdest experimentations in club culture that have bubbled to the surface of Soundcloud. Dazed rhythms converging into Jersey stutters, and tumblr-era trap for two straight hours on a Monday.

For the fifteenth edition of Functions Of The Now we're extremely pleased to present a long time Truants favourite: E.M.M.A. Although E.M.M.A’s release schedule has slowed since her debut album Blue Gardens landed, her Functions Of The Now mix hints at the wealth of dubplates waiting to be unleashed, including the exquisitely titled Magna Kanye. Elsewhere, E.M.M.A finds common ground with producers on the dreamier end of grime: rising star Iglew, Gobstopper Records label head Mr Mitch and Coyote Records affiliate Tom E. Vercetti (solo and together with his production trio Silk Road Assassins) all make an appearance.
