The BRSB made a ton of noise with their cult classic cover of 50 Cent's "PIMP" a few years back, most people thinking that it was the original tune 50 sampled from.

This time they take the Steel Drum Funk sound to a deeper part of Hip Hop with their own rendition on the late great classic tune. The A Side is "Bacao Suave",  a surefire version of the tune, and you know we like versions. DJs, have a great time.

The B Side is their rendition of the underground classic "Round & Round" from Hi Tek's Hi-Teknology album. An absolutely killer version of the tune, drums are heavy, steel pans playing thru the melodies, sure to turn heads on the dance floor.

Originally released in March 2006 and virtually impossible to procure on vinyl ever since, BBE are excited to announce a special ten year anniversary edition of the classic Visioneers album Dirty Old Hip Hop. Brainchild of 4hero and Reinforced Records founder Marc Mac, the Visioneers project first appeared on a series of limited edition 7” vinyl releases. Marc began re-imagining his favourite hip hop beats from the golden era, retaining the feel of those extended, looping grooves whilst also re-introducing the excitement and musicianship of the records from which they were sampled: ‘Dirty Old Hip Hop’ was born. Drawing on the musical talents of Somatik and drummer Luke Parkhouse, both regulars on the 4hero sessions, this largely instrumental album also featured stunning performances from rappers Capitol A and Voice. An artist who was introduced to jazz music by his favourite hip hop beat-makers, ‘Dirty Old Hip Hop’ serves as a loving tribute to both art-forms, weaving the two together until even the most ardent purist will find it hard to define any space between. Dirty Old Hip Hop was shortlisted for Gilles Peterson‘s coveted Worldwide album of the Year award in 2006.

A week ago I downloaded fLako's beattape 'Leftovers' with tracks he produced in 2008 and I felt so inspired by what I heard I managed to write four songs in like an hour. So I decided to do 'Quattro'. 

I call it an EP but it's more like just one 8-minute song, an illustrated journey into the wild in four parts, combined with mixed sounds I was hearing at that time, both from close surroundings and in my imagination. 

Quattro means 'four' in Italian, and all of the four songs are recorded in my home during the past week.

But it’s her solo records with longtime musical partner TM Juke that she is best known for, and they have borne some of the most arresting blues soul since the glory days of Aretha. “We’ve both got a very open approach to writing songs,” Alice explains of the prolific relationship, “Our influences run from Sarah Vaughan to Bach, Kate Bush to Arvo Part, and J Dilla to Alice Coltrane. We love everything from dirty, squelchy dubstep to old school soul. We nudge each other in the right directions.”

‘To Dust’ sees Alice exploring every letter of the soul lexicon and beyond to create her own dynamic sound; from the punchy, Prince-esque strut of “Hard And Strong” to the epic intensity of the title track, which could easily be the next Bond theme. Through the heartstring tugging “I Loved You”; the sonically smooth yet emotionally raw “Twin Peaks”; to the pulse-quickening build of “Let Go (Breakdown)” and psychedelic social consciousness of “Citizens”, Alice Russell is never less than scintillating as she displays emotions so real you feel you could reach out and touch them, and a voice of unparalleled versatility.
