STROM TON Cologne impresario Stefan Eul invited the Psycho Thrill CGN boss-man and radio colleague Claus Bachor especially for the 3rd anniversary of his 674.fm broadcast. And he played nothing but a consistently slammin' BreakBeat/ HiTechFunk/ House set on the cutting edge of TECHNO, that Cologne/Düsseldorf club aficionados otherwise got or get to hear in the legendary BNKR, on the BangTech12 rooftop of the Detroit Bookie's or currently in pandemic free times at the Golzheim Club in Düsseldorf. Not really a surprise, but definitely the appropriate sound framework for everyone who feels committed to the real Techno underground. In addition, the whole thing "handmade" only from vinyl and without compromises.

[nvr based on hype but made by our audience and our club nights what they still are till 2day]

Still no new real "Post-Corona" club life in Germany! And so there is only one more recourse to one of the many 674.fm radio broadcasts hosted by Psycho Thrill Cologne. It doesn't always have to be the obvious "power-hour" peak-time tracks that make the sweat drip from the club's ceiling. In his mix for the NACHTAKTIV collective in Cologne, Claus Bachor deliberately uses the category of tracks that DJs and vinyl nerds often only discovered for themselves at the second attempt and then made a club hit. 

Trackwerk that is no less hypnotic and just as natural at the end of the day, mesmerizing and hypnotizing every dancer and continue to do so. Nor should it go unmentioned that all of these tracks played here had and still have their not insignificant impact on Cologne/Rine area club life in the past as well as today. This applies in particular to clubs such as Ballhaus (Bonn), 42dp, Artheater, Kitt Klub, Sensor Club, Studio672/Stadtgarten and, subsequently, the Psycho Thrill BNKR (all Cologne) and, to this day, the GHM/Golzheim in Düsseldorf. 4 the rest of this story let that music do the "talkin'".

08-08-2014: Typical club mix in a pure Psycho Thrill CGN vein, played by Claus Bachor for "TALKING MACHINES" at GRIESSMUEHLE / Berlin. SRY here for a few slight rumbles due to a skippy turntable and a partially distorted monitoring which accounts either for some of the "lil'skips" during the mix. However, it used to be a huge night due to the brilliant audience hangin' out there - movin' into any direction on the cutting edge of Techno -, the super nice work by the "Talking Machines" promoters and the very cool atmosphere of the whole "Griessmuehle" club as well.

This bunch of real PSYCHO THRILL Cologne Techno "Phuture Classics", played at a SUBSTANZ AC allnighter @ Musikbunker Aachen/ GER on carnival Sunday, March 7th, 2016 (Vinyl Only like always and finally now here available in '23 remastered WAV-file 44_1 KHz 16 Bit quality!).

Where the original sound recording has been now remastered here at its very best by Cologne's finest Bob Humid, the mix itself gives a clear impression of the concept of Psycho Thrill Cologne in its 33rd year (2024) of existence, representing still Techno & House without any boundaries since 1991. No tracklist available here yet ... but people who know do know!

Cologne’s RAVE CLUB  [ ... a brief club history http://www.psychothrill.de/?page=item&amp;post=339 ] had caused quite a stir as a club institution in the Dome city during the years 1988 to 1990, not only throughout Germany, but also on a European basis – e.g. via features in FACE and I-D, as well as through its monthly schedule and its bookings [et al. Marshall Jefferson, Kym Mazelle, EPMD, Todd Terry…] together with the residents. For the first time, there now were club nights in Cologne, which were solely dedicated to House and Acid without any compromise and these also became an example in many respects for anything substantial that has been going on in Cologne’s night life ever since, be it Space Club, "Elevator", Warehouse, PSYCHO THRILL or "Total Confusion" and which laid a foundation for all kinds of sounds that any Psycho Thrill guest has been experiencing since 1991 on a regular basis: Get right on matey – there are no rules, fear is unknown and sleep is out of question!

     “This rather ruff mix of myself- sorry for a few rumbles and mistakes – was recorded during one of my rare solo nights without my partner Roland Casper sometime in November of 1989. It was done with a crappy Rain mixer lacking gain control, only allowing semi-professional monitoring and I would kick any promoter’s ass for this today. The DJ booth also was exposed to some disturbances by visitors, which accounts for some of the skips during the mix. But the complete works of euphoric clubbers and the extraordinary atmosphere, which was created by the combination of a very good sound system, light and sound [two strobes, a fog machine, two flowers], made this club experience so absolutely valuable. That was the place, where we started the shit in Cologne. This mix got re-mastered by a friend from some TDK tapes that were recorded on a Yamaha tape recorder, so the quality is poor at times, but it is an authentic sound document of Cologne’s club life in the late 80s on the other hand. Cologne’s RAVE CLUB [ ... a brief club historyhttp://www.psychothrill.de/?page=item&amp;post=339 ] had caused quite a stir as a club institution in the Dome city during the years 1988 to 1990, not only throughout Germany, but also on a European basis – e.g. via features in FACE and I-D, as well as through its monthly schedule and its bookings [et al. Marshall Jefferson, Kym Mazelle, EPMD, Todd Terry…] together with the residents. For the first time, there now were club nights in Cologne, which were solely dedicated to House and Acid without any compromise and these also became an example in many respects for anything substantial that has been going on in Cologne’s night life ever since, be it Space Club, "Elevator", Warehouse, PSYCHO THRILL or "Total Confusion" and which laid a foundation for all kinds of sounds that any Psycho Thrill guest has been experiencing since 1991 on a regular basis: Get right on matey – there are no rules, fear is unknown and sleep is out of question!

        "This 2nd part of the mix was also recorded during one of my rare solo nights without my partner Roland Casper sometime in November of 1989 [  Part1 of the mix > http://soundcloud.com/claus-bachor/rave-club-89-claus-bachor-cologne-november-1989 ]. It was done with a crappy Rain mixer lacking gain control, only allowing semi-professional monitoring and I would kick any promoter’s ass for this today. The DJ booth also was exposed to some disturbances by visitors, which accounts for some of the skips during the mix  . . .  here while mixing Rhythim Is Rhythim's "Nude Photo" into Terence Parker's "We Need Somebody". 

        But the complete works of euphoric clubbers and the extraordinary atmosphere, which was created by the combination of a very good sound system, light and sound [two strobes, a fog machine, two flowers], made this club experience so absolutely valuable. That was the place, where we started the shit in Cologne. This mix got re-mastered by a friend from some TDK tapes that were recorded on a Yamaha tape recorder, so the quality is poor at times, but it is an authentic sound document of Cologne’s club life in the late 80s on the other hand. Psycho Thrill founder Claus Bachor warmin' up and emotionally spinnin' the final "ROHBAU x PSYCHO THRILL" at Duesseldorf's now defunct GOLZHEIM / GHM club as well before the club closure in early 2023. Which was generally tragic for the club owner Daniel Fritschi and all club people in the following due to the forced renovation of the Theodor-Heuss-Bridge under which the GHM was located.

This mix is dedicated to BOB MONTAGUE, who has passed away peacefully after a long illness in the morning of dec 13th. Also well known under his nickname Punjabi Bill, the famous creator of Cologne's "Ifficial Art / BNKR Project", has been one of PSYCHO THRILL Cologne's best friends and one of his biggest supporters and wise mentors of the last 25 years. The Psycho Thrill Cologne founder @ at Munich's gay scene institution, the PIMPERNEL Night Club, on Friday, November 27th 2009 _ Part1: This live-recording featuring another re-mastered workout by Cologne's finest Jean Barth, which has been done for the first part of Claus Bachor's special PSYCHO THRILL Classic-Vinyl_mix series that features a very special track collection of timeless DISCO informed tunes, which conjures up the Black Gold class of the famous MUZIK BOX or PARADISE GARAGE as Cologne club classics like PIMPERNEL, COCONUT or MOROCO, and its unpredicted blend of 80ies DiscoFunk, H-N-RG and early Chicago House - often played as well at Cologne`s RAVE CLUB legend that had caused quite a stir as a club institution in the Dome city during the years 1988 to 1990 [ psychothrillcologne.tumblr.com/raveclubcologne ] - plus a bit of so called contemporary Cosmic Disco.

Although it was every time a new risky DJ adventure to do an official Club-mix like this in terms of sound quality and mix skills due to suboptimal monitoring and sound PA of the Pimpernel (whereas club atmosphere, crowd and crew were always sensational and 100% compensated for all other disadvantages), the live recording conjugates all the classic tracks that the "Psycho Thrill Cologne" residents Claus Bachor and Roland Casper influenced significantly before their own Rave Club residency. At the same point, "MUZIK BOX part 1" is also a serious reference to former Cologne DJ stalwarts such as Jo Funk (Coconut), Carol Martin (Coconut / Moroco) and Klaus Stockhausen (Coconut / later Front HH), whose work in the Dome metropolis has been going on since the end of the 70s, and did not remain without their significant impact on Bachor and Casper.

Finally, this mix is especially dedicated to Pimpernel bouncer STAN "Die Tür", who died much too early in 2020 under unfortunate circumstances. He was always one of the club's positive crowd pullers and will never be forgotten just because of that and much more!

In the history of germany's night clubbing there are a few spaces that are probably held in higher regard than Ultraschall. Munich's gone but not forgotten famous ULTRASCHALL (june 17.1994 - january 31.2003) used to be the Southern German metropolitan’s wildest and most open-minded venue for techno and other game forms of electronic music like House, Future Minimal and IDM. It finally became one of a few real German techno club legends till today. The driving force(s) behind all used to be Peter Wacher (Disko B records) also known as DJ Upstart, Captain Reality and David Süß, where the whole world league of Techno and House DJs used to play at this club.

The three-hour live recording was fortunately backed up to three TDK-60 tapes and left to the "Psycho Thrill" crew thanks to 'Frau Gabi' (responsible for the light & visual animations at the  ULTRASCHALL). While the first tape was already digitized quickly by Emanuel Geller (SALZ MUSIC-Mastering)in 2000 and was also given as a free-give-away "Detroit Pandemonium (a tribute 2 Detroit)" mix CD to the Cologne Psycho Thill clubbers, the second and third tape temporarily disappeared into the turmoil of a divorce and a resultant move. Recently, a fortunate circumstance owed again, those these "lost recordings" will be ready soon either for the Soundcloud download here. PSYCHO THRILL Cologne-founder CLAUS BACHOR is one of the German long-term House and Techno DJs at all, and as friends in Detroit say "he's been doing this as long as anybody else that we know! His sets can range from classic Disco & old school House classics all the way to the darkest, bangin' techno that you've ever heard!" However, he's not standing still yet: The Psycho Thrill club and vinyl label run by him has just turned 25 and Bachor is still doing bookings all over Europe, the United States and beyond. 

His long-term affiliations with Detroit techno music and also his journalistic involvement with the topic of Detroit Techno/ Electro/ Chicago-House as an author/editor over the years has made him a world renowned expert. This experience and vast knowledge of the techno genre has led him to appearing in many documentaries, the most noteable being 'High Tech Soul' [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddh88l_57Bk ] which focused on the creation of Detroit techno music. Other film credits include being involved in the highly acclaimed 'We Call it Techno' [ https://www.discogs.com/Various-We-Call-It-Techno/release/1388974   //   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWPFrWojYQ4 ] documentary which focused on Germany's early techno scene and club culture.
