Drum and Bass - Liquid - RADIANCE - Space Between

Petter B (Petter Borg) is a Gothenburg based DJ and producer. He started out behind the decks back in 1996. In 2012 he re-launched his solo career after having been a part of the famous techno duo "Hertz" for five years. Adam Beyer immediately signed Petter’s solo material to his well-known imprint Drumcode. 2013 was the year Petter launched his own imprint Bond. Bond is the result of the way he plays and thinks of music as a DJ.
In the beginning of Petter’s DJ career he was influenced by the 90s house sounds. The way into techno was rather straightforward. In a way he saw techno as all the best parts of house exaggerated to the extreme. The purity and less-is-more approach he found within techno appealed to him in contrast to the house music’s sometimes over complicated arrangements of vocals, leads, bridges and chorus. Techno was somewhat closer to the core of what he was looking for in music, skipping all the excess. He felt that techno gave him the biggest potentials to express his own creativity and character as a DJ. Up until today Petter has released lots of tracks and remixes under different names and on different labels around Europe. For example Drumcode (SWE), Defected (UK), Underwater Recordings (UK), Sway (SWE), HzTrax (SWE), Abyss (SWE), Atom (SWE), 1605 (SLO) and Patterns (NE) to name a few. 
Petter is not the first Swedish techno grandmaster we’ve invited to the show, fellow Parabel artists Patrick Siech and Nima Khak already did the trick, this time it’s up to Petter. The podcast contains a live recording of his recent gig in Iceland. Claydrum resident STØRM set-up a few questions for Petter, to get to know him a bit better.

S: Hi Petter, thank you for sharing your live recorded set! How was the gig? 
P: It was intense and intimate. The venue was packed to the max with people and it gave a great feeling to the set. 

S: Bond is your label, which you use to release your own work but also productions which you think they fit the sound you pursue.. How would you describe the label’s vision? 
P: As of now I use Bond only for my own unfiltered output. Inspiration to the Bond-tracks are usually found during my gigs when I go “oo, it would be cool to have more tracks that could go with this now!” or “I would like to try taking the crowd even further in this direction!”. Every track has a place in how I structure and play my sets.

S: I’ve been digging into the Swedish electronic music scene for some time now and I was surprised, in a good way, about the amount of talent you guys have.. A lot of “hidden” talent as well. Would you be able to explain the drive/passion behind Swedish dj’s/producers?
P: I think its a combination of our openness towards new ideas and cultures together with our very functional approach to many things. Also, our country allows us to easy escape all the noise and buzz. I think that helps us stay true to who we are and that to me is key to all great art.  

S: You posted a picture of a new studio in the making on Instagram; did you change locations or just re-modeling it? Or was it simply getting to small because of the hardware?
P: New location, new house, new studio. All new and very exciting. Bought some land last year and that kicked it all off. I have actually designed the whole house around the studio. Needless to say I have a fantastic wife.

S: Enough about the electronic music, tell me, what are the things you love to do most, which are not music-related haha, any guilty pleasures you’d like to share?
P: One thing that has been my guilty pleasure lately has been carpenting and tools. Alongside the build of the house and studio were we hired carpenters I have built a garage where I also plan to make all the studio furniture myself. 

S: Last question; festivals or clubs?
P: BOTH! But lately I have really enjoyed playing longer sets in small sweaty clubs. In my world it's the contrast that keeps things interesting.

We're very happy to welcome our brothers AnD for our seventh TNDB-podcast. AnD really don't need any introduction. After 15 years, Andrew & Dimitri are deeply rooted in the scene. One of the biggest technoacts alive, label owners of @innersurfacemusic and their own imprint, releases on various big labels like Electric Deluxe, it's impossible to overlook AnD. 

AnD started their longstanding career being influenced by the more harder techno, industrial and uncompromising. The years after they broadened their musical spectrum. Their hard, fast and industrial EP's like AnD002, made room for their album "Cosmic Microwave Background" (2014) on Speedy J's label Electric Deluxe. With this album AnD made it known that other sounds like drum & bass, drone and ambient aren't unfamiliar territories.

Their last album "Social Decay" (2017), also on Electric Deluxe, showed even more that the guys are willing to overcome boundaries in electronic music. They are able to produce tracks that are not solely 4x4 bangers, but also tracks that captivate and force you to broaden your taste in electronic music. Their interests extend even further than techno, as the pair produce art, scores and more.

One of the biggest techno acts with two of the biggest hearts we know, we are very humbled to welcome our friends AnD for our seventh podcast.
