Instant goosebumps...this song was so impactful in the game, that realization of where you were, and what was going on. This just brings it to life.

Update 3/20/15 - Re EQ'ed

I must admit when I decided on which combination of instruments to use for each siren instrument, I did not consider how they would sound together when played together, so arranging this track was as much a discovery for me as you listening to it.

The Game Boy hardware only allows 4 audio tracks to be played simultaneously, so in the final playing of the instruments, you may not hear all of the instruments represented, and some only show up briefly within the song. However, you can go to the wind fish egg at any point in the game and play the ballad using just the instruments you acquired up to that point. This allowed me to get a reference for how each instrument was used. For fun, I panned the instruments exactly like it appears in the circle around Link. Each instrument performance remains for the most part unaltered from the original, except for the cello. The original game has the cello and conch horn playing the melody in unison, so I separated them and gave the cello harmony and counter-melody to play instead. I also decided to add the ocarina into the mix even though you don't hear it in the game, because it would be weird seeing Link in that pose with no sound, as if he's lip-syncing!

Update 3/20/2015 - Re EQ'ed

I always thought the original tune did not match the rest of the soundtrack with its jazz-like base line and rhythm. I originally intended to change it a bit to sound more like the forest themes from the other Zelda games with more ethereal atmospheric sounds, but decided against it. When I replayed this section, I felt a sense of mischief underlying the mood. You have these thug monsters that take up almost every screen in probably the smallest environment on the map, a raccoon that laughs and prevents you from proceeding - makes the place appear silly and comical. In that sense, the original tune actually fits the place pretty well, so I thought I'd just amplify it a bit. I added two ethnic drums that do battle with each other (African Ashiko, and Djembe), and also have the flute go "Flight of the Bumblebee" crazy in the second half to really up the tension. I also stumbled on using the Glockenspiel, which sounds very similar to the magic powder item you use for the first time in this area.

Here is another Zelda Wii U track that I composed, it has been a while since I have uploaded a fan made Zelda Wii U track, so I thought I should create some more. I made this track to fit a horseback battle, fast paced and heavy. I can imagine there will be a few battles whilst exploring the land of Hyrule on the Wii U game!
