Melody of Truth

Micah 7:8 has been a hope for me for years and felt compelled this morning to reflect that for Day 2 in my 7in7 song writing attempt.

A sinking feeling
latches deep within my heart
This constant weight inside
Makes me lose before I start
A war swells deep within
I'm never making way
There must be hope
as I unravel and I fray

Rejoice no more,
when I fall I see the light

Rejoice No More

Inspiration came from a painting a friend did for us. The painting had this beautiful walkway with overhanging trees in brilliant colors, but all of the people were painted without color but one. Just the visual that the world misses out on the beauty of creation without the eyes of the gospel.

Day Fades

Day 4. Wanted to write something more upbeat that I could hear in a service. I think so often we forget that Church is who we are and not where we go. The challenge in this song is for the Bride to embrace her new name, the name of our Savior.

Brides' New Name

Yesterday's Faith comes out of a season of life for me a few years back where I was just living off what I had learned through my years of faith and not pursuing one actively. The Chorus came out of Valley of Vision. I read through these puritan prayers daily and this one landed today. "Make us willing to be saved not in us but See nothing in ourselves and all in Jesus."


This well of faith is drying deep in me
Just living off who I used to be
Groans in my soul are yearning from my past
Desperately in need of a faith that really last

Yesterday's Faith

Displaced through Katrina, crawling through the trenches of a difficult international adoption, and realizing that in everything the enemy wants nothing more than to stop any and all work God has for us gives plenty of inspiration for this song. I was talking to a friend about this season our families in and said "I'm trying to stay close to the Lord so I can't doubt the steps he's led me to take," Psalm 23:6 reminded me it wasn't my thought but the word of God. 

When the waters yet to fall
and my backs against the wall,

Trust in a Psalm

Been Reading the book, "Engaging the soul of Youth Culture," and my heart breaks for all those who fall into a philosophical aimlessness and the church hasn't been willing to go to them and reach them with hope. They continue to build hoping they will come to us, so that's where this song come out of.
