Clad in tiny pants, if any at all, Leroy Macqueen is waving the freak flag high from the sandy shores of Newcastle, NSW. His partner in crime is Kat Friend, who turns a blind eye while he turns a brown one. Together they are notorious duo The Gooch Palms.

They have been described as "important" by many and have earned themselves quite the reputation here in Australia as one of the must-see live acts in the country. Nudity, blood and violence served right alongside genuine and elated enthusiasm is what audiences have come to expect from these two. In their three year existence they have clocked up a number of km's playing up and down the East coast and graced the stage with the likes of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Thee Oh Sees, Nobunny, King Khan & BBQ Show, Obits, Jeff The Brotherhood and POND and played Big Day Out, Sydney Festival, Hoodoo Guru's: Dig It Up, Boogie Fest and ruffled the industry's feathers at Big Sound.

Behind the stageshow antics, however, The Gooch Palms create infectious songs drenched in pop sensibility and achieve a lot with only vocals, one guitar and two drums. Their sound is big, brash and simple, wavering between brutal and beautiful. It's this juxtaposition that sets them apart from the pack; the sweet and sour, the camaraderie and conflict that is balanced through out their song writing and their live performances.

In the past couple of years they have been a productive little DIY unit, recording and releasing their first 7" EP La Cucarachas Stole My Baby off their own label A-noose Records. Following it up with another self recorded 7" EP R U 4 Sirius? which was mixed and mastered by good friend Owen Penglis of Straight Arrows, released on Anti Fade Records out of Geelong and gained them recognition across the globe, especially in the underground press where it was met with positive reviews. For shits and giggles they recorded and digitally released a Shitty Tribute to the Ramones, a six track tribute to a band they undoubtedly draw inspiration from and have also featured on the Nuggets: Antipodean Interpolations of the First Psychedelic Era compilation CD/LP with a cover of the garage classic Just Like Romeo & Juliet and Anti Fade compilation New Centre of the Universe Vol. II. 

Despite both Leroy and Kat being born amidst a sea of industry and raised on a diet of narrow mindedness and predictability, they have taken their frustrations and turned it to their advantage, drawing inspiration from their situation and surrounds to create their debut album NOVO'S. A somewhat love/hate ode to their hometown. It was once again recorded by the band themselves, at their Newcastle residence dubbed "The Gooch Farm" over the course of 9 short hours. It was then sent to the USA where it was mixed and mastered by Jason Testasecca also known as Elvis Christ and sometimes guitarist for Nobunny at JT Recording Studios in Oakland, California. The Gooch Palms have continued their solid relationship with Anti Fade who will be releasing the long player this October.

THE GOOCH PALMS - We Get By (NOVO'S LP 2013)

First taste of the upcoming Frowning Clouds album, 'Whereabouts'. It’s been a long time coming, but worth the wait. 
Combining all their favorite sounds, old and new, it’s definitely a departure from their previous full-length effort. 'Whereabouts' was recorded in Melbourne, Sydney, Madrid and Geelong late 2012. Fourteen songs of groovy, noodling beats and reverberated fake jazz wrapped in vivid artwork by Jason Galea (Zonk Vision).
The LP/CD will be available in Australia November 13 at all good record stores. First 100 copies of both the LP and CD will include a bonus disc filled up with their European tour cassette and singles B sides - available ONLY through mail-order!

Geelong delinquents the Living Eyes have just churned out a second LP of burners to hit the shelves early 2015, following their self-titled debut from 2013.  
Since then the band have thrown around a handful of singles, shows and a split 7”, but its common ground that all arrows are pointed towards this new long player. As of January 30, the Living Eyes will unhinge a new belt of stompers to make up LP round two. 
The album was predominantly recorded by Straight Arrows’ front man Owen Penglis over a day and a half spent in Sydney at Penglis’ new hideout; Goliath Professional Recording Studio. The tapes were then driven back down the Hume highway and finished off in a couple of West Geelong bedrooms, before being mailed to Rye mixing master, Mikey Young. 
Living Large takes off in a somewhat new direction since the S/T LP, filling out with more sharp cuts and guitar crunch but still keeping the snotty sound they’d always had. In a few words – it’s a poppy punk record that sounds nothing like pop punk. 
But it’s nothing to dwell on - its ten tracks wide and 26 minutes minutes long and it’ll spin faster than your average long player any day of the week.

New Age is the title track and second single taken from Vintage Crop's upcoming debut LP, "New Age". The LP will be out April 6th on Anti Fade Records and Weather Vane Records.

Vintage Crop is four early-twenties men from Geelong, a group of people who spent their adolescence playing sport, listening to triple J and shunning the local scene. Now they’ve smartened up, changed the channel and stopped exercising. The band released their first tape in 2017 and have returned less than a year later with their first full-length album.
New Age is an album that favours simplicity and delivers a punch to the jowls of the local scene. It shines a harsher and darker light on the Geelong four-piece, steering away from the garage leanings of the band’s 2017 tape, TV Organs, towards a grittier sound.
Recorded by Billy Gardner (Ausmuteants, The Living Eyes), New Age is 12 tracks of fun-poking; complete with sarcasm, alien misadventures and tales of missing garden gnomes. Tracked in one 8 hour session in Geelong, live to tape, the band channel the no-frills song writing of Eddy Current Suppression Ring and pair it with the urgency and biting wit of Uranium Club.
Vintage Crop will be launching the album’s first single, Gerald Part 2, on March 16th at The Post Office Hotel with Gonzo & The Blinds before an interstate album tour in May.

VINTAGE CROP - New Age

Anti Fade records is very pleased to announce the release of the ‘New Centre of the Universe, Vol. 3’ LP; the third instalment (and first to appear on vinyl) in the label’s series of Australian-based compilations that began back in 2012. It’s been five years and over two dozen releases since the last volume of the compilation - but I like to think that this one is worth the wait! The record is made up of the likes of Terry, Parsnip, Exek, School Damage, Vintage Crop. Traffik Island, Gonzo, The Shifters, The Stroppies and many more - nil bands of which have appeared on any previous compilations.

To recap earlier volumes; New Centre of the Universe, Vol. 1 and 2 came out within 12 months of each other on small cassettes runs in 2012 and 2013. Volume 1 featured nine Melbourne bands on the first side and nine Geelong bands on the second, together spanning the likes of The UV Race, Frowning Clouds, Dick Diver, King Gizzard, Ausmuteants, Hierophants, Living Eyes and many more. 10 months later came New Centre of the Universe, Vol. 2, which this time featured bands spread along the Australian East Coast such as The Stevens, Straight Arrows, The Gooch Palms, Super Wild Horses, Cobwebbs, Terrible Truths, Bits Of Shit and of course many more. 

But enough about the past - “New Centre Of The Universe Vol.3” is now finished and ready to see the light of day. The compilation features 17 Victorian bands and artists and has backed off from any ‘punk’ bands that may have featured on earlier volumes, with the overall theme here being a more relaxed and easy listening record. It was compiled over the last 12 months by Anti Fade Records, mastered by Mikey Young and finally wrapped in the glorious, hand-painted artwork that you see above by Carolyn Hawkins - who also features on two of the songs! From the garage-y sounds of girl group Parsnip’s opener, “It Couldn’t Be True” to the minor, instrumental closer that is Zane Gardner’s “In Saint-Rémy and Auvers”, the compilation sets a strong and versatile balance of some of Victoria’s finest musicians, groups and songwriters.

Vintage Crop are back! The aficionados of awkward rock have taken no annual leave after this year’s New Age LP, choosing instead to deliver their latest project; a 4-track 7” titled Company Man. 

Now firmly in control of their sound, Vintage Crop exhibit their ability to dial up their brash, sarcastic brand of punk as they see fit. Reciting tales of corporate greed, broken promises & unusually long extremities - A 4 track EP that explores life in a suit & tie. Company Man is inundated with the same nervous energy that drove New Age; sharp guitars and unsteady riffs - a claustrophobic space further impinged by the everyday grind. 

These four songs are a stand-alone release & will not feature on any future release. Vintage Crop & their associates do not believe in marketing gimmicks.
