Born in South Africa, now London-based, Kai Van Dongen is a recently initiated DJ/producer whose transversal sound cuts through typical genre confines and proposes fresh techno with an ambient bent. Born out of the COVID-era, his productions saw daylight around the cusp of 2020’s end with releases on Lobster Theremin sub labels 1Ø PILLS MATE & Cyberdome, Truncate, Ei8ht and Second State. His own KVD imprint now caters to his Bandcamp crowd, providing a direct-to-fan outlet for his raw, unadulterated cuts. Bruising and beat-matched to excellence, his sets have a black hole pulling power that bends beats instead of light, a surprising mix of modulated synths and rumbling bass.
