"Weltschmerz: The kind of feeling experienced by someone who understands that physical reality can never satisfy the demands of the mind."

Lead track ‘Weltschmerz’ sounds like an instant Berghain classic; dark, massive, trippy, and with an emotional character all too rare within the genre. The kicks are banging, the verbed out percussion is fierce, and it all moves around a haunting melodic breakdown that artfully dances on the right side of ‘progressive.’ It’s a killer track that perfectly sets the tone for the whole record.

‘Damage Control’ is a straightforward flex-a-thon, a housier rhythm that struts along confidently. The technical term is ‘floor-filler.’ ‘Lonesome’ brings the emotion back, with it’s super-tense, unresolved melodies, this is perfect for all your mega-club yearning & gurning needs. ‘Relatives of None’ is the nastiest of the bunch, and probably the most at home on Turbo, built around a screechy synth hook. Finally, ’Weltschmerz (Melodic Theme)’ provides an epic ambient outro, crystallizing the emotional tones of the EP and establishing a sense of artistic vision that ascends well beyond the pedestrian.

B1. Amelie Lens & Farrago - Purge

Luke Slater, Steve Bicknell and David Sumner (aka Function) are LSD, an ongoing musical collaboration between three longtime electronic music innovators focusing on psychedelic aspects of techno while emphasizing the cross-pollination of each member’s style and rhythmic sensibility. ​More new techno on the horizon and this we've been served up two new remixes from Blawan of Lucy's inaugural EP on Zehnin​. 

Both 'The Hermit' and 'The High Priestess' have been remixed and we've got the premiere of the latter. 

It's a new slice of ambient, experimental techno and it's going to bring the heat over the winter months.

CRG011 sees the long awaited return of Wrong Assessment. The A side see's host to stripped back, heavyweight, dance-floor rollers. 'Endocrine Response' will have you descending into a subtle trance via its scattering hi hats and brooding synth work, while 'Neurotag' is all about the contrast between the groove and the ever rising minor note, which continues even through breaks in the rhythm, yet drops off without a trace as if it were never there.

The B side continues this theme of mind-bending synths and kaleidoscopic drum work, albeit with a noticeably tougher attitude. 'Virtual Hand' is certainly a peak time hitter, with nods to Mike Parker and Abdulla Rashim in its own unique style. On remix duties for 'Virtual Hand' is another Clergy favourite, Kmyle. He takes the track in a darker direction, moving more towards a sense of dread and frantic despair with nervous hats, claps and snares.

Those buying digitally will have access to an extra 5th track, 'Ganglion'. It continues the narrative of the record, but with more focus on the driving rhythm and agitated, almost random, synth stabs.
