OUMAR KONATE with a bucket, helmet, and drum performed nightly at age 5 outside the family’s front door in Gao, Mali. After attending l'Institut National des Arts in Bamako he became bandleader for «Tounkagouna», the monthly variety show broadcast throughout West Africa. He has toured the US, Canada and Europe. In 2016 he was awarded the Tamani d'Or, the Malian music industry's grammy award.
