A welcome returnee to the Proton Music fold, Savvas Karabinos, has been a regular on the flagship label since a 2019 debut remixing Turkish star, Erdi Irmak. Two further remixes for Rick Pier ONeil followed in 2020 and 2021 before a debut original EP appeared in the shape of February 2022s 3-track Reminisce including remixes from RIGOONI and Vridian. A second EP followed a year later with Crescent Moon as another trio of powerful original tracks were paired with remixes from Juan Deminicis and Andrea Cassino. Now returning with another musical triptych, Craving Spaces is redolent in the rich sonic landscapes of textured pads and dreamy melodic passages. Underpinned by a heavy beat and huge sub-bassline, haunting motifs sit atop creating an air of elegant juxtaposition against the hypnotic rhythm. As the seasons shift from late summer to another Northern Hemisphere autumn, Falling Leaves enthrals with its subtle melancholy of light melodic touches following the narrative of its predecessor. Immaculately cadenced synths are used to develop a swathe of cascading musical ideas while textured pads create a vivid sonic landscape. A driving beat and ticking percussive hi-hats add to the picture in another moment of rare beauty. The final track sees We Are immediately carry on the mantle of driving rhythmic force combined with perfectly placed deep house chords and floating chord progressions that swim across the stereo spectrum. The delayed vocal effects and vibrant arpeggio of a post-breakdown second half creates a dynamic and powerful track. An Australian artist with an impressive reputation within the underground dance fraternity, Patrick Carrera has been at the vanguard of progressive, organic and deep house sounds for over a decade. Through his MUUI moniker, over 500 production credits thus chart a path across such esteemed imprints as Sudbeat Music, Global Underground and Eelke Kleins Outside The Box, plus a further 300 credits on his own Here Now. A trio of remixes for Proton Music dating back to 2014 and a reworking of Kobana, have seen subsequent rerubs of Imran Khan and Mark Slee in 2019 and 2020 as MUUI returns for the first time in over 4 years. Reimagining Falling Leaves, MUUIs skill is create a silky-smooth version that retains the laid-back melodic groove of the original while creating a rhythmic foundation that retreats elegantly into the mix in the early phases, while a deep and resonant kick drives the track forwards. Making full use of Savvas original components a raft of additional production evolves in the second half including a sumptuous twinkling arpeggio and vocal touches, creating a triumphant remix. Based in the capital of the Ontario province, Beije have carved out an impressive niche from their Toronto home. Able to point to a double century of production credits on the likes of Harabe, Café De Anatolia and The Purr, a pair of Proton Music remixes for Juan Deminicis and Lisandro in 2022, paved the way for 2024s remarkable Ardere EP in August 2024. The 3-track original EP was chock-full of masterful production technique and trademark melodic touch, showcasing the Canadian pairs inimitable style and craft. Now returning for a third remix, Beije have captured a delicate dancefloor groove with the muted and cadenced chords that fill the melodic spaces of the original. Moreover, the addition of diaphanous and free-flowing piano phrasing at the mind-point and through the third movement adds a subtle and delicate touch to proceedings, completed further by subtle vocal effects. The result is another stunning Beije production. With the addition of immaculate remixes from MUUI and Beije, Savvas has found that Craving Spaces is the perfect way to showcase a trio of exceptional new original works. Reflections

Turning back

Huminal have made quite an impression on Proton Music. Returning, "Life Lantern" sees a glorious original twinned with remixes from Croatian and Russian talents.

Award winning producers with an ear for lush harmonic melodies and glorious rolling rhythms, Paul Deetman and Jelle Jansen have commanded attention with a rich aural tapestry that characterises their work as Huminal. Hailing from Amsterdam, the Dutch duo have been regulars on both Proton Music and Particles with an array of original material which began with 2014's "Acrophobia" and 2015's "Pocket Universe", before the Huminal sound graduated onto the flagship imprint with a trio of outstanding EPs. "Knocking on the Sky", "We Dwell in the Past" and "Macropsia" spanned a three-year period between 2015 and 2018 as the duo now return with "Life Lantern", a beautifully crafted antidote to 2020's defining global anxiety. Redolent in soaring analogue motifs that bristle with joyous energy, a rasping bassline provides the perfect counterpoint to the melodic phrasing. Evolving elegantly, filtered arpeggios and glissando lead create a joie de vivre that explodes in the third movement.

Croatian star, Petar Dundov, has been central to the melodic techno sound for a number of years. Operating out of his incredible Zagreb studio – the envy of every right-minded electronic music producer – Dundov's unique approach and immaculate sound design has seen the master craftsman feature on an array of blue-chip imprints that includes Steyoyoke, Bedrock and Cocoon. An ethos that combines the primal urge to move to hypnotic rhythms while the brain interprets complex melodic patterns, has seen the Croatian perform across the world at the "I Love Techno" and "EXIT" festivals alongside the more intimate settings of Tokyo's Womb and Belin's uber-cool Berghain. Making his Proton Music debut in June 2019 remixing Simos Tagias, Petar Dundov returns with a magical interpretation of "Life Lantern" that builds on the central melodic themes inherent in the original, extending them with hypnotic precision through delicately evolving and spellbinding arpeggiated motif that shimmers and ripples alongside elements from Huminal's sonic architecture. Combined with a driving kick, off-beat hi-hats and textured pads, the result is a stunning return.

Anton Make is another name that requires little in the way of introduction. Originally from St Petersburg but now based in Kazan on the banks of the Volga, Anton has been at the vanguard of the underground progressive house sound with his combination of "deep house, tech and tribal music". With a double century of production credits under his belt since debuts for Mistique Music and OLD SQL in 2012, the Russian has found his way on to such esteemed labels as Mango Alley, JOOF and Replug. February 2019 saw the "Aquamarine" EP on Particles before the five-track "Bulletproof" hit Proton Music in July 2020. A debut remix now sees Anton Make create a wonderfully rhythmic offering that builds in impressive fashion. Using Huminal's central melodic themes as a starting point, new motifs emerge in intelligent fashion while rooted in the effervescent melodic spirit of the original. A loquacious vocal cut adds further depth while new motifs continue to develop in the hypnotic third movement.

Original music from Huminal plus remixes from Petar Dundov and Anton Make provide a warm glow of humanity around "Life Lantern".
