„Auf @poesiemusik habe ich schon mehrere EPs und Remixes gemacht, daher war der Kontakt stetig da“, erzählt @jonas-woehl. Mit „Nordhavn“ bringt der Dresdner nun eine weitere EP auf dem Berliner Imprint raus. „Das Label kam vor ein paar Monaten auf mich zu und fragte, ob wir wieder einmal gemeinsam eine EP machen wollen. Opening track Cadenza explores an enigmatic African theme built on steady percussion and hazy vocals. Adding dramatism and nostalgia with whirl-winding synths, the construction reaches a floating peak point, evolving into a shimmering crescendo.

Gaivota plays with guitar clips and vocal loops to create an atmosphere of fragility and sentimental isolation. A solitary kick holds the track together and imprints structure onto the predominantly wavy melody, making it a great build up track.

Named after a North American Native tribe, Meskwaki steps things up with a stronger rhythm accompanying the wistful tribal vocals and undulating synths. Powerful percussive reverbs and low pitched drums create a seeming sense of calm, only to steer into a masterful drop, accompanied by avian chirps and trills.

Number seventeen on San Francisco’s Manjumasi showcases the stylings of Italian musician and producer Davide Ferrario. Drawing on a background in both composition and live performance, Davide’s two-track offering is richly musical, showcasing his melodic sensibilities as well as a talent for crafting deep grooves. The lead track “Model” kicks off with a powerful kick and a thick, punctuated bassline. From there the track builds an increasingly complex harmony of layers up into a forceful crescendo of rich, detuned-oscillator synth stabs, with a tone that is both dark but optimistic. The track is well-complemented by “Jewel Ice,” which shows Davide’s softer side in a beautiful sonic tapestry of pretty piano lines, supported throughout by ethereal string pads and sparkling synth details.

First up on remix duties is SF producer and Manjumasi alumnus Bengal, who takes the ingredients of Model and re-works them into a softer, more lush groove. Hypnotic, looping melodic layers carry the groove steadily and gently forwards, with Bengal’s unique and sophisticated percussion style seasoning the mix with artistic detail. Rounding out the package, Toronto DJ/producer and co-founder of No. 19 records turns in a deep, dubby late-night take on Jewel Ice. Stripping the track down to its core elements, Nitin hones in on the seductive piano lines, re-situating them at the very center of a mysterious and haunting afterhours groove.

With a hefty back catalog of releases and an ever-evolving style, Berlin mainstay Niko Schwind dives into his introspective side on the Amari EP, which boasts four original tracks including a collab with DJ, producer and vocalist Felix Raphael.

Opener Circles is a tangle of dreamy pads and wistful vocals, with gleaming synths and undulating drums complementing Felix Raphael’s pensive lyrical incantations.

A walk on the tribal side, Kala combines introspective melodies with relentless percussion. Indigenous chants accent the mystic rave atmosphere, building up to an immersive, hypnotizing climax. Equally mesmerizing, but channeling a more constant energy is Amari, taking us on a dynamic journey with occasional bursts of sonic color. Zugvögel is a laidback track that builds slowly, adding subtle layers of cosmic melody with psychedelic vocals and a deep, mind-bending bassline, rounding off the release in a contemplative fashion.

This remix EP captures different directions; Deep House, Electronica and Organic House, taking the original further out of its comfort zone.

We welcome Italian rising star Nohan, who has captured hearts and attention of many in the past year, with touching, gentle vibes. Debuting artists, Titus Flavius out of Germany, gives an insight into his world of modern deep electronica, with an EP to follow later this year! And our dear friend Atalaia, with now his signature Balearic influences for a perfect summer soaked deep house take.
