Our annual 'Reto' compilation returns with its fourth installment. 2021 has come and gone, and it's been another year of ups and downs, last-minute cancellations, beautiful glimmers of hope, and label firsts: our label showcases debuted across Europe, and we celebrated our first long-player release by a solo artist. Above all, this year has shown us that electronic music remains a labor of love for all of us, and producing the best music we are capable of is what brings us together – no matter the circumstances.

Namesake title track showcases those warm and summer beach vibes where we have been longing for. Close your eyes and let the sounds just take you there.

Life After Death additionally bring us in a delirium of sonic silkiness. Fate is the slower take in this EP and smoothly chugs along while taking you on a musical journey.

On closing duties we have the talented Micaele, bringing more attitude to the A1 Silver Lining. A flawless EP that is worthy for you ears.

Voices Of Valley & Remains Of Silence Ft. Eleonora - Never Say Never (HeÎk Remix)

For the second release of 2022, it’s time to welcome the Argentinian MUNSE (@munse_ofc) back on the label. His ‘Lament Of A Goddess’ EP consists of four conceptual and storytelling originals, accompanied by an electronic classical intro and outro, which were part of the prologue. With his movie production background, these tracks are almost forming its own genre, that could also be seen as cinematic melodic techno. That’s why the collection feels like it’s taking place in its own world.

The intro track is called ‘Crystal Storm’, which is an impressive electronic classical ambient track and immediately shows the great composing skills of MUNSE.

The second track track is called ‘Zea’. It slowly introduces the cinematic feel of the EP, but as the first break passes, the fierce atmosphere comes through. Throughout the track, unexpected elements are popping up. Something which will happen in the next tracks too. Towards the end of the track, the main lead gets accompanied by an extra layer, creating a very high intensity.

The title track ‘Lament Of A Goddess’ starts off a bit deeper. This track is characterized by its bombastic vocal chords and unexpected heavy stabs, resulting in powerful peak moments. Between these obvious parts, a smooth high pitched and iterating organ is finding its way through. Even in the final break, unforeseen additions are brought to light. 

Surrounded by already uncommon basslines, ‘Sierra’ is sticking out. Its harsh bassline switches after the intro, which is forming a great drive together with the fast percussion. On top of this drive a repeating melody brings a rising tension. This tension gets broken down by a more peaceful break, after which a tremendous drop follows.

The second-last track is called ‘Tears Within Souls’. The combination of short synths, percussion and bassline gives this track another energy. Nevertheless, the breaks are probably the most cinematic and colossal of the whole EP. Also, an impressive hovering synth is floating throughout the composition. 

The outro ‘Zelena’ brings an end to the story of this beautiful EP. A story which couldn’t be told in a more musical and vivid way, than MUNSE did with his EP.

The VA is curated properly combining tracks from Vis:on, Amavi, Antimatter particle, DPMND, ESSNSTV, and LKNV. In this journey, our artists want to remind us of what's missing and where we are going wrong.

"The Sea of Azov" is a journey that begins in an emotional state full of dreamy pads and hooking melodies. As we go deeper through the tracks, a different state of melancholy emerges. The artists tried to combine groovy beats, catchy melodies, and melancholic sounds while focusing on all the other details properly as each sound matters in interpreting the state of the artist and emotions through this journey.

Each track in this VA tells a different story, it's like having flashbacks from different moments in which a woman was trying to save the nations from sliding into chaos but she ended up drowning in a loop of hatred and inhumanity.

Fresh from the success of The Shadow Self II last December, which featured Terr and Echonomist as remixers, Berlin duo Yeah But No will release on Distant Echos once again this April with The Shadow Self III. The lead track, Keep Running, picks up where Run Run Run left off: the pair’s 2019 offering that was remixed by Keinemusik linchpin Adam Port.

"With Keep Running, we tell the story of a lost person - in pursuit of social perfection, a life full of constraints and walls - far away from real desires. The only thing that remains is the escape from the self, through an endless labyrinth of wrong decisions. The lyrics continue on from Run Run Run, relating to an inner demon that makes us run away from situations we should really confront.” - Yeah But No.

Keep Running takes the form of a strikingly beautiful cut, as poignant vocal offerings leave us in a state of starry-eyed reflection. Percussive elements build gently, providing a staggered, slow-building rhythm that enhances the moving nature of the title track. An acoustic version comes next, further amplifying Keep Running’s organic nature, before Ivory’s Euphoria Mix takes on a more dancefloor-inspired edge with hard-hitting kick-hat pairings.

Yeah But No is the collaborative project of Fabian Kuss and AEON founder Alex Niggemann. Influenced by hypnotic techno and great pop music, the duo are carving out a haunting sound that is perfectly evidenced in their latest production series: The Shadow Self. The second edition drew support from some of electronic music’s most esteemed artists, including Dixon, Mind Against and Adriatique to name a few, laying the foundation for a similarly successful release on The Shadow Self III.
