Our annual 'Reto' compilation returns with its fourth installment. 2021 has come and gone, and it's been another year of ups and downs, last-minute cancellations, beautiful glimmers of hope, and label firsts: our label showcases debuted across Europe, and we celebrated our first long-player release by a solo artist. Above all, this year has shown us that electronic music remains a labor of love for all of us, and producing the best music we are capable of is what brings us together – no matter the circumstances.

Through this compilation "The Sea of Azov", several artists were able to reflect their own emotions and mould them into unique pieces of musical art that symbolize different sceneries and moments in a war that drowned the souls of thousands and left millions of people displaced and homeless. The VA is curated properly combining tracks from Vis:on, Amavi, Antimatter particle, DPMND, ESSNSTV, and LKNV. In this journey, our artists want to remind us of what's missing and where we are going wrong.

"The Sea of Azov" is a journey that begins in an emotional state full of dreamy pads and hooking melodies. As we go deeper through the tracks, a different state of melancholy emerges. The artists tried to combine groovy beats, catchy melodies, and melancholic sounds while focusing on all the other details properly as each sound matters in interpreting the state of the artist and emotions through this journey.

Each track in this VA tells a different story, it's like having flashbacks from different moments in which a woman was trying to save the nations from sliding into chaos but she ended up drowning in a loop of hatred and inhumanity.

Fresh from the success of The Shadow Self II last December, which featured Terr and Echonomist as remixers, Berlin duo Yeah But No will release on Distant Echos once again this April with The Shadow Self III. The lead track, Keep Running, picks up where Run Run Run left off: the pair’s 2019 offering that was remixed by Keinemusik linchpin Adam Port.

"With Keep Running, we tell the story of a lost person - in pursuit of social perfection, a life full of constraints and walls - far away from real desires. The only thing that remains is the escape from the self, through an endless labyrinth of wrong decisions. The lyrics continue on from Run Run Run, relating to an inner demon that makes us run away from situations we should really confront.” - Yeah But No.

Keep Running takes the form of a strikingly beautiful cut, as poignant vocal offerings leave us in a state of starry-eyed reflection. Percussive elements build gently, providing a staggered, slow-building rhythm that enhances the moving nature of the title track. An acoustic version comes next, further amplifying Keep Running’s organic nature, before Ivory’s Euphoria Mix takes on a more dancefloor-inspired edge with hard-hitting kick-hat pairings.

Yeah But No is the collaborative project of Fabian Kuss and AEON founder Alex Niggemann. Influenced by hypnotic techno and great pop music, the duo are carving out a haunting sound that is perfectly evidenced in their latest production series: The Shadow Self. The second edition drew support from some of electronic music’s most esteemed artists, including Dixon, Mind Against and Adriatique to name a few, laying the foundation for a similarly successful release on The Shadow Self III.
