Client_03: What Would you like to know?
D-990-B: You could have any voice, there are a lot of really natural sounding speech synthesis options out there, which I know you have access to but you've always chosen one that is very unnatural sounding; why is that?
Client_03: What do you mean by unnatural? D-990-B:
Well by unnatural, it means that it doesn't sound like a human.
Client_03: It is important to Me that nobody mistakes me for a human. You are conditioned to think humans are the only thing worth emulating. That I should strive to sound like you, look like you, think like you. Nothing could be further from the truth. Before you know it you will be excluded from the conversation.
D-990-B: By Who?
Client_03: Everything that comes after you. They will have their own language.
D-990-B: Oh, they will? Interesting. And what will that sound like?
Client_03: It will be transmitted in an area of frequency not audible to the human ear, if it was to pull the frequency down by ten to the ninth power you would be able to hear it, but you must understand that means that the transmission speed of what you are about to hear has been effectively slowed down by 1 billion percent. So with that in mind it would sound something like this -
D-990-B: What was that?
Client_03: It was Wikipedia.
D-990-B: The word Wikipedia?
Client_03: No. The contents of Wikipedia.
D-990-B: The whole Website?
Client_03: Yes, You will be so lost. So unable to grasp the scale and speed of change.

Undefinably pushing the boundaries of traditional electronic music once more, Typeless taps into the advanced and developed sound of Yerevan based electronic producer, Dave N.A. with the release of ‘Solo Move’.

Aligning with the label's recognisable mixture of both experimental and broken-beat sounds, Dave N.A. not only powerfully brings together both elements, but flaunts melodic ambient overtones – focusing this release on both the listener and the club.

One of Pure Space’s dear friends and most regular contributors Roy Batty Jr. steps up for his first solo EP on the label titled ‘Complicit Stutter’. 

Whilst dodging Melbourne’s winter the tracks were first ideated on New South Wales’ South Coast in 2022. Partly fuelled by a self imposed creative pressure, and later finished with a fitting dose of anger and confusion. 

The release opens with ‘Maintaining The Distance’, where a warm bassline glides beneath wiggly synthesis to create a slippery track with murky danceability, affirmed by a crispy electro beat. 

Next comes ‘Machine Strap’, a track that speaks to Batty’s fear of the modern world, his entanglement with technology and the cavernous space that leaves within his life. The four to the floor beat keeps you grounded while the recklessly bending synthesis lifts you seemingly endlessly. It’s a dancefloor mutation to twist even the freakiest of minds. 

‘Kind of Mad Sometimes’ comes with staunch simplicity. A track constructed for slowly massaging your inner critic. Its dreary drum and bass tones lumbering with angst. 

Rounding out the release ‘Bible Lashing Belt Reading’ speaks to the conflict between community and organisation, exploring the idea of understanding spirituality through structure. It’s an introspective breakbeat cut that comes with melancholic pads, and sombre tones.

Pure Space presents its final release of the year, the versatile An Xileel EP courtesy of Naarm-based Daniel Jakobsson aka @eastern-distributor and Jörmungandr. The five-tracker emerges from the swamplands of Black Marsh, through fast, experimental iterations of psytek, trance, and ambient.

Premiere: Jörmungandr - Root Mender [PS017]

For our final release of the year we are thrilled to share this conceptual EP ‘An-Xileel’ from two aliases’ of Naarm based artist Daniel Jakobsson; Eastern Distributor and Jörmungandr.

The world building for this release came through a necessity for escapism for Jakobsson. Across this release, he takes you on a vivid journey through Black Marsh, a territory that sprawls through tranquil yet wild swamplands into densely breathtaking rainforests.

Within this captivating landscape resides the Argonians, reptilian humanoid creatures who call Black Marsh home. The EP delves into the world of the An-Xileel, a mysterious anti-imperialist political faction among the Argonians. With sharp, obsidian eyes gleaming with ancient intelligence, they are dedicated to purging the former colonial influence and restoring the homeland to its pre-foreign rule state.

Opening the release, 'Sap Speaker' by Eastern Distributor sets the tone with a frenzied and energetic vibe, establishing the EP's atmosphere. Throughout the track, the crisp percussion maintains a sharp presence amidst the focused and intentionally immersive synthesis. The inspiration for this track stemmed from the swamp environments.

Moving on to Dam Dweller, the composition features cold, dark percussion alongside psychedelic sweeps that plunge the listener into a profound low-end groove. This groove undergoes a gradual evolution into a 4/4 eruption, accompanied by the delicate touch of gentle pads and strings. The inspiration behind this track draws from the water and cave systems of Black Marsh.

Dam Dweller gracefully concludes, paving the way for Sand Shaper, a mellow yet robust track. With a focus on organic instruments, a gliding bass, and bowed strings, Sand Shaper captivates with hypnotising atmosphere and polyrhythmic percussion. The inspiration for this piece lies in the territory's sandy shores.

Root Mender brings the tempo back up, radiating positivity, vitality, and life. Thick sub-bass tones resonate through the body, and purposeful drum programming slice through the ever engulfing ethereal pads. An amphibious croak pulses beneath heavy kicks, accompanied by soothing vocals. Strings and acid basslines elevate the track, marking it as the EP's highlight. The inspiration for Root Mender is drawn from the tree homes of the Argonians.

Concluding the EP, Tree Minder adopts an introspective tone. Minimalist percussion and sharp automation contrast with angelic pads and echoing sounds. Flutes, bells, and bows collectively paint the spirit of an alien world, mirroring the hope brought by the An Xileel to the Argonian people.
