Done w/ SP-404SX and Korg padKontrol- all sequencing done w 404 sequencer (thus almost no effects and such :/ - I did some without quantize though which was great and took a few tries- making copy of Pattern before non quantized overdubbing was helpful as well to not have to do whole Pattern over every time)

ALL sounds from source material or from mic for this battle- 
Snares: mouth sounds, claps. change dropping, etc.
Other: pottery, etc.

This track was produced over 10 years ago on my RS7000. I was amazed at what I could do with my own guitar playing (using a Echoplex digital looper) and the slice/loop remix features of the RS.
Used sounds of raindrops slowed down and chopped too I just realized.

Name is from time I spent watching the meteor shower and working on this- was sitting outside on a mountain top late at night- SP-404SX on batteries FTW!!

I didn't intend for blank space and wanted to do way more drums but I never seem to have enough time and I love messing w sounds etc. I might work on it more and update it at a later date- I tried to do a section in between as a bridge between but didn't have time.
This was also first time I used the 555 a bit as well for last section and such. Used djfx to do slow tape in beginning. Pretty sure I used pattern sequencer a bit and maybe 555 as recorder- I don't recall- will have to load the project again and see.

This was my first 505 track, learned a TON and had a great time working it out! Used the Pattern Sequencer- don't think I did much if any resampling.

Came out too much bass and clipping- fuck it is 5am what do you want from me!!! ;) (was very fun coming up w new workflows on the spot and learning as I went along)

NEW MIX 9/6/13:
I didn't like the first mix so I did it very different this time. EQ on 555 as I played it out to the 404SX (boosted mids and highs a bit- might have cut the low or left at 12oclock), on the way it went through an RNC (Really Nice Compressor), added delay on way as before then resampled w/ vinyl sim. On way out to computer (using Zoom H1 as interface) I ran it through the RNC yet again and for the first time in many years did not use the Waves L3 on the mix bus in Reaper to master. Very satisfying. In the end I recorded the bass too hot into the 555 and resampled it into the patterns too hot but there it is. Thx for listening, hope it sounds a bit better to you. C

NOTE- in comparing the 2 I see the new mix is pretty compressed, the bass is tamed which is good, but I will def try diff compressor settings next time. It is nice to be rid of the clipping too but not as dramatic a difference as I might have imagined. The first mix has it's "charm" ;)

Only used the single 8 second sample provided, I even avoided anything outside the box by pulling the file directly off the SD card to upload here.

Prob first time I used the resampling method entirely and did not use the sequencer at all.

Resample track made all in 1 box (Roland sp-404sx) and from one sample source (sound of someone washing dishes- fun!)

I used resample method and ran into some issues with glitching and things messing up. I also had to make compromises due to the 4 note polyphony limit while resampling. Was fun though- just resampled the track probably over a dozen times. I ended up defragmenting my SD card and putting all the backup .bin files at the end of the drive and not sure if it helped but it was 87% fragmented and some of the audio files were 4 and 5 fragments or more. After I did that I did not have any more glitches, maybe it helped.

Resample method. Used all but the dialog sample. fast and quick job- only had a few hours but loved the samples I had to do something for the battle! (also ended up doing a bunch of takes in mono by mistake and added stereo effects on last take to try and fix but was not same- live and learn!)

I was winner of last RC so this was material I submitted for RC9 and I finally made a track with it. As with all resample challenges only the source material was used and only 1 box (SP-404SX)

Resample method- takes time to get in the right headspace to tweak all the sounds etc. 
I got a new SD card which is great because I have no more glitching and issues while resampling with fx etc.

The main beat or "pulse" (literally) is my heartbeat recorded w my phone pressed to my neck.

Used resample method. Had to defrag SD card even though I bought a new SanDisk Extreme card. Was getting skips and dropouts on resamples. Grrr. Defragging and putting all the .bin backup files at the end of the card solves it.

This was fun and I let go of any attempt to retain clarity or fidelity. Had to lower internal processing level and all sample levels to keep bass and such from clipping too much.
I chopped the voice into "your playing with yourself" which was funny but didn't want to put it in after all. I ended up not wanting to be able to recognize the source material at all- partly because it was so cheesy and was not in the mood for making a humorous track etc.

Made on 404-SX for BB 155 using resample method. I got really drawn in by the African sample in 5/4- was challenging to work with but very rewarding. Some hiccups remain- ewps.

I really could not get into the source acapella material to shuffle into a new sentence even though I love doing that. It was mainly because the source was sung and thus you had to deal with key and phrasing etc. rather than just spoken word. All I could come up with was:

Made on a Roland SP-505. Description of process and sample sources in above link posts.

Heavy processed some theme music (resampled a few times and duplicated/reversed resampled w fx few times etc to build the pad in beginning and throughout) Kept main pad element stereo and most other things mono. Sounds good in headphones! Isolated drums- used iconic "wild thing rap" roll from John Candy movie and shortened it - made a hi-hat pair with some sound that was a drum or something- lots of octave/amp/vinyl sim/etc on everything. Used a metronome to match BPM and make guitar and bass loops w Orange amp drive/Strat/Kay bass, JamMan Delay for loop and delay then rec those in to 505. Used 3 patterns total- used mutes and switched patterns manually- ended up with couple of "mistakes" that worked like the guitar chops and doubled guitar w phased sound. Only took 2 takes! Recorded live take to a Zoom recorder then over to computer for a mastering compressor render in Reaper. Was trying for something more textural and dark. Had to really pause early on bc I was just chopping things out and processing and not really keeping my eye on a goal/idea. Feels like making textural/drone/warbly/Boards Of Canada type sounds is just a bit harder on the 505- I am still getting used to it. Oh- many sounds and the mix were very bass/low heavy/muddy- I used live EQ fx on guitar, drums and was a game changer getting a better mix for live take.

Used an SP-505
Made 7 patterns and strung into song
used Tape Delay on drums and manually tweaked Intensity and FX level throughout recording down to a Zoom H2N recorder.
Played drums manual on break
Took a long time to vibe w the samples- lots of resampling, chromatic pitch, etc. Tried many different things. I JUST discovered that there are in fact card banks on the 505 and I put in a 64MB card. There are no shortcuts to card banks on the front panel and now that I know I can use longer samples which I think will help enjoy the 505. Up till now these last few tracks have been limited to the few mins of sample time in internal memory!

Used a 505 and had to just get this one out the door.
Lots of chopping and resampling
1 pattern w 4 parts- 2x drum and 2x melody/harmony
sequenced then used the 4 tracks/mutes along with real time changes to fx pad assignments to play down a recording. Not as much variation and texture as I'd have liked but nice to let it go. Much nicer process using a 64GB card and a card bank no issue w sample time. Used chop function to separate the drums and played the 2nd pattern live into the sequence that is always fun when you have a few chops of diff lengths you create a beat from but the pad timing/sequence is different than the timing of the beat you hear. That would be interesting to use the -pad- timing as an added template for another beat or accent in the track...

I just decided to go with the bad time stretch from BPM matching or whatever on the 505- it allowed me to slow things down in a way I was looking for. I had to keep some things mono 505 has only 8 voices I think. I only had drum chop and a hi-hat I made sequenced the rest played live. Used octave on things, resampled a lot, tossed a lot. Worked fast tonight to get in on the deadline. Fun to get something in the game.
