Mellow-XZACKT, born and raised in Cleveland, embodies the path of the starving artist. It’s a road less traveled, one that breeds tortured souls and uncertainty. After gaining slight local recognition via a slew of underground mixtapes, Mellow took a hiatus from making music to finish art school and explore different ways of expression. To make a living off of your pure talent is something he learned wouldn’t be easy, from grinding as a freelance graphic artist to writing 3 screenplays in 6 months, Mellow yearned to create and refused to get stuck at somebody else’s desk making their dreams come true before his.
Mellow-XZACKT returns to his hip-hop roots on 2017’s Leap of Faith. The project is fun, it’s dark and it’s honest as we chronicle Mellow’s years of early adulthood. Drawing inspiration from ‘80s painter Jean Michel-Basquiat, Mellow pays homage to the late artist through skits that help show the parallels between them. “You can’t be me and me? I’m glad for you…” Mellow raps on the opening song, a testament to his understanding of the path he’s chosen.
Leap of Faith is an experimental hip-hop experience. It is a concentrated mind-fuck of self-depreciation, love and triumph, with one common message to all creatives:

“Get a running start on that leap…”
