With two critically-acclaimed albums, an EP and six singles under their collective belts, Welsh Music Prize-nominated Cymrucana pioneers CLIMBING TREES return this autumn with new single 'Middle'. 

Released on Staylittle Music and distributed by The Orchard via PYST, the track will be available to stream and download exclusively via Bandcamp from Friday September 8th 2023 before releasing across all major digital platforms on Friday October 20th 2023.

Recorded in isolation at Mwnci Studios in Hebron, Carmarthenshire – the setting for the band’s critically-acclaimed albums 'Hebron' and 'Borders' – 'Middle' marks the Trees’ return from hibernation following an eventful few years which included shows in the UK, Europe and USA alongside numerous television, radio and festival appearances, a live session at London’s Maida Vale Studios and a performance with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

As the band’s frontman Matthew Frederick explains in the latest Treemail, 'Middle' was written in the ‘No Man's Land’ between the group’s first two albums, and whilst the initial recording began during the 'Borders' sessions, the combination of a tight schedule and an even tighter budget meant that only five of the six tracks intended to feature strings were completed, with 'Middle' destined to remain an unreleased live favourite forever more.  

Until now…

With the help of one-man quartet and honorary Tree David Grubb – who, as well as featuring on the band’s 2021 single 'Troubling Times', has also played and recorded with a host of other Welsh artists including Novo Amor, Toby Hay, No Good Boyo, Tendons, Darren Eedens and the Taf Rapids String Band – 'Middle' has been revisited, revamped, remixed, remastered and released into the wild at long last.
