There can be no denying Sergio Muñoz, aka Fur Coat. Now a native of Barcelona, his Venezuelan roots are a reminder of South America’s ever-increasing contribution to the world of electronic music. The fact he has, and continues, to be at the forefront of this Latin surge is testament to his skill and creativity.

It’s also the reason why his relationship with Renaissance continues to endure. With three singles and an album to their collective name, they now join forces once again to present the diverse Dystopia EP.

Dystopia itself is the definition of everything a title track should stand for; a heady mix of Fur Coat’s consistent ability to marry a memorable riff with effortless, production cool. “My intention was a catchy hook that played along with the sub bass,” he confirms, “evoking the classic Renaissance era, but with a modern, yet timeless vibe.” 

To ensure every drop of creative juice was wrung from the track, Sergio and Renaissance invited Musumeci and Dodi Palese to remix it in their unique, indie style. “We were instantly drawn to ‘Dystopia’s’ infectious riff and specifically wanted to celebrate that element,” they explain. 

The EP is completed by Solitary Road, which shifts a stylistic gear into the world of electronica. “It’s been great to see the return of atmospheric breaks in recent years and I really wanted to produce something that would be a worthy entry into the genre,” Sergio humbly explains, “so my focus was once again on the all-important melodies with detuned chords and catchy riffs.”

Lowbit is excited to welcome another fresh new artist to the roster, Atóm, and his stunning EP "Chimera"; The EP starts with the eponymous "Chimera" just like the mythological beast it is named after, it has several sides to it. Starting deep and building up to a fiery crescendo, only to turn into a lush and vibrant breakdown and back into a epic peak-time dance floor track.

The second track "Sphinx" has a darker vibe, keeping it a bit more stripped back focusing on individual elements, pushing melodies back and forth in the soundscape. With clever sound design and modulation, the track pushes things forward underpinned by a minimal but groovy drums.

An artist with a growing Meanwhile history, Mike Rish returns to the label with a 3rd original EP, this time with the “Akhnaton / Gröv / Cloudbreaker” triple-tracker.

A story that began in late-2021, Mike Rish and his “Beyond” EP ignited a spark that would go on to burn brightly amongst a galaxy of stars on GMJ & Matter’s flagship imprint. Already a regular on such celebrated labels as Kasey Taylor’s Vapour Recordings, Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music and Guy J’s Lost & Found, the Australian artist has continued to see his distinctive and mature production sound much sought after.

Now returning to Meanwhile for the first time since June 2023’s “GT / Shoreditch Funk / Reka”, “Akhnaton” is inspired by the Amsterdam club of the same name and host of Meanwhile’s debut label showcase at ADE 2023. Full of trademark character, the track is a pounding club floor-filler with white-noise back drop and chugging bassline intent. Full of mesmeric soundscapes, and cascading delays, the track builds in power as subtle melodies are introduced amongst the immaculately placed pauses that help ramp up the intensity. The result is a masterful affair.

Continuing the hefty rhythmic narrative, familiar tropes percolate around “Gröv” like a fine wine. Under a huge, throbbing backdrop of seismic beat and cavernous bass pattern, spine-tingling melodies float across the mid-range before coming to the fore at the extended breakdown. Adding to the sonic collage with a hypnotising off-beat chord motif, the track then drops back into the familiar form of earlier phases as it draws to its conclusion.

The final offering sees “Cloudbreaker” continue to push the sonic envelope with the immaculately crafted bassline extravaganza. Full of percussive intent with shaker-fuelled top-line, a richly syncopated melody captures dancefloor attention, held through a sustained bass phrase at the breakdown. Hitting its straps again in the third movement, the gargantuan groove and luscious melodic interplay break through in a stormfront of club vibrancy and brio.

A force to be reckoned with via another EP chock-full of skill, technique and craftsmanship, Mike Rish excels once more via his “Ahknaton / Gröv / Cloudbreaker” EP.

Lost & Found deliver the long-awaited, highly anticipated remix package for Khen's 'One Day Of Independence' LP this week. It's a stacked line-up on the release with label boss Guy J himself, Lehar, Luca Bachetti, Termoment and rising star Patrice Baumel all turning in their own takes on cuts from the album. Baumel, who's seized major attention with releases on the likes of Kompakt and Anjunadeep over the last year, provides a sleek, smooth, synth-laden roller for the occasion, taking the original track up a notch in intensity. We're very excited to present the remix in full premiere today :)

In the words of the Amsterdam-based producer himself, Baumel explained "I consider Khen one of the most promising new artists in electronic dance music and was blown away by his album. Chicola, the Israeli veteran producer, unleashes over two decades of music production experience on the excellent 'Could Heaven Be' LP following on from his recent Beatport number one hit single 'Yoav'.

Commenting on his debut album Chicola says 'Lost & Found is my home and Guy J suggested that it was time for me to do an album so of course it's a great honour for me. Its one of the finest labels around and I feel lucky to be able to release my music there.'

HOSH's fryhide label is back with a first EP that is from an artist other than the boss himself. That artist is Tim Engelhardt, a fast rising German wunderkind who serves up four fantastic tracks that prove why he is going to go on to big things. It is a great signing by H.O.S.H. and one that makes another standout EP on his young but impressive label. 

Engelhardt is currently riding high off the success of his recent album, Moments of Truth, at just 19 years of age. It follows five years of essential tracks on other outlets and all of these have proved he has an emotive deep house and tech sound. Far from just functionality, club tunes, his music is fully formed with real vision and musicality. Says the artist of the release, 'this is a chronicle of what I've been experiencing over the past two years; the transformation from someone who is interested in music and technology to a full solo artist and performer where my reality has become playing music and producing tracks.'

Opening the EP is masterpiece that is Reality, a slow burning tune with wavy beats and carefully constructed melodies that are sombre and tender. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, clever engineering and an arrangement that shows real artistry. As the beats shuffle on you get sucked into the deep emotions and lost amongst the gentle percussion. Then comes Heart Resonance, another moody track with lush chords and pads laid over soft but engaging drums. It's a majestically magical affair that really cooks up some exquisite melodies. 

We Didn't Talk For A While gets a little darker, with more driving drums and rumbling bass that is filled with tension and suspense, even a little menace. Again the chords are well crafted and help stand the track out, then Henriette gets more loose and freaky for the late night hours, with skewed synths and miniature explosions of cosmic colour keeping you locked. 

This is a beautifully crafted EP that marks another great release on this essential and well formed label.
