We currently find ourselves in the strangely beautiful month of October, the annual period within the temporal field that inevitably allows our wEiRd to rise to the surface like the dark cream of our souls. The whole WUMP Collective family shares a common love for Halloween season, as it tends to bring out the wild, uninhibited creative side of our artists, allowing us to truly let our freak fly without holding back. Plus, with the leaves changing and the ‘sweatshirt optional’ weather emerging, we’re reminded to reflect on impermanence and the cyclical nature of things. It’s a powerful time of year, no doubt, but without getting too serious and philosophical, let’s have some fun.

Today’s release is all about relishing in the darkness and channeling it into art that “Comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comfortable” (Cesar A. Cruz). To kick off the spooky season, we’ve got a slightly disturbing track from our pal Levitation Jones and his cohort, Chark, that embodies the sinister beauty of this time of year. This is the WUMP debut for each of these fellas, which we’re very excited about, and let’s just say it’ll be a memorable one for all of us.

‘Goose Leg’ begins with quick intro, introducing a synth that sounds like a cross between a cyber flute and a cosmic horn of the underworld, immediately pulling us out into the deep waters. We’re sent soaring into the abyss when the bass comes in, riding a wave of dissonance and orderly chaos into uncharted sonic and textural territory. ‘Goose Leg’ plays a myriad of tricks on the mind and soul as the womping, stomping bass engulfs us in its unrelenting grasp, pulsing and throbbing in the low end without a shred of mercy. The haunting dissonance of the lead synth seems to call out for help, resembling human speech in its inflections and personified pitch changes. Constantly growing and swelling, it carries us through utter absurdity and relentless oddity until it breaks in the middle.. if only for a moment. Quickly again we’re lifted up for a second dose of heaviness, this time even bigger and badder with the low end wobbling us into oblivion and the mystery synth breaking our brains in the best way. ‘Goose Leg’ is surely a track that will delight, confuse, and amuse crowds as it fills their audio receptacles with thought-provoking, movement-inducing vibrations.
