Hand crafted from field recordings, junk percussion and charity shop keyboards, TOP002 sees Scissorwork on wax for the first time.

With an uncompromising DIY approach to building tracks and attention to detail, he has distinguished himself from the crowd and gained real momentum since tracks started to appear online in early 2016.

The opening track 'Urges' sets the tone for the EP - a delicately constructed, feel-good thumper, dripping in tape saturation, fuzzy bass notes and off-kilter melodies. 'Sympathy' moves into heavier territory showcasing rusty, rolling bass tones, infectious grooves and a strong dose of nostalgia. 'Walking Home' takes things down a notch. Melancholic chords set to a backdrop of crunchy organic drums and a field recording captured at dusk in the city, that familiar feeling of walking home, still lucid, while the rest of the population is just emerging from their slumber towards the nearest coffee shop. Wrapping things up with help from fellow Bristol migrant Playboy Nolan is a dark, hazy 2-Step joint taking influences from elements of UK bass music, from early 90's to the present day.

The A-side channels sweet soothing vocals over a clattering, percussive drum underlay, whilst the flip eschews the sweet-as-a-nut vox for hi tempos and crispy MPC hammer-time. Absolute fiyah straight from the heart of Frankfurt & proper hatchback bizz for hazy summer days.

‘Link Common’ is the secret alias of a producer from Wales in the United Kingdom who runs his own label & has quite a healthy following with a gang of smart detroit-y & idm vibe electro tunes released under his main artist pseudonym. Opting for a change of gears via the title Link Common he wanders into ether realms of fat breaks and swirling ambience, and it's a decision that does not disappoint. Titular track Cloud Words from this Link Common double header channels some mid-90s Good Looking rec flavour with its undulating pads and angular beats, and the breakdown is mesmerizing. On the flip, “Loop Call” (originally titled “Jam Toast”) is quite simply a thumper and thumpers. Alias or no, we’re pumped to have these tracks sit strongly at the tail end of 2019, firm in the canon of clipp.art belters.

At some point, someone told me a rumour that the kale farmers of the world got together because no one was buying their kales, and hired the marketing people from Coca-Cola to get people stoked about kale.  I mean, who cares if that’s true or not? I’ll suspend my disbelief to think of some Don Draper like character coming to town and convincing everyone that the green leaves that taste like crumpled up receipts are the life-giving nectar that can turn anyone into a Ryan Gosling. Those farmers were very committed.

The unstoppable Jay Robinson is breaking records on @NightBassRecords with his 9th EP, “LSD”. We’ve heard some incredible tunes from Robinson since the beginning and he continues to demonstrate his tenacious musical talent with this next release. “LSD” kicks off with the title track, a bouncy dance floor heater that sends you on a synth-fueled trip taking you right into the next track, an epic collaboration with the legendary @ToddEdwards3000 titled “The Provider”. This tune is the perfect amalgamation of a nice groovy beat and an instrumental 4x4, layered with Edward’s classic effervescent vocal work. Mercury Vapor is a smooth 135 bpm breakbeat groove inspired by the glow of mercury vapor street lights. 

The green hue of this particular gas-discharge lamp adds an entrancing otherworldly glow to the street that it illuminates. The layers of swooping pads and the rich lead synth paint an illusory landscape. This transforms into a heavy groove with the introduction of the sub and breakbeat. 

Monolithic’s long-time collaborator Computer Data (San Francisco) has transformed the original motifs into a slick acid belter with warm chord pads and flowing lead synth melodies. The sustained basslines are sure to throw home listeners and clubgoers into a trance.
