Dropping ahead of her debut set for Triple J mixup on June 29, "purgatory" is sammythesinner's first original release after stunning debut "Sweep" (Unearthed Radio added collab with fellow west coast bass lord Silva). Having performed at events such as Motif Open Air, Market Grounds, Seasons, Voyage, Snack and others alongside a variety of acts including Tame Impala, and Bag Raiders, and with more music coming from the Perth producer, "purgatory" introduces sammythesinner as a femme drum n bass upstart to lock on your watch list! In her own words: “Some believe in Purgatory as a physical place; a place of purification or punishment. With this track, that place is the dance floor; a place to repent your sins and cleanse your soul. I’ve been following the UK scene for a long time and although this was the original inspiration for the track, I wanted to feature a mix of genres without limiting myself to one specific sound. That’s why you’ll hear elements of UKG as well as DNB and experimental bass.  It’s a high energy tune that builds momentum from the outset, sure to captivate a range of music tastes and get you on the dance floor - no matter who you are or what you’re into.”

Newcomers XO-5 and Cyberian Relic emerge from the Russian cities of Ivanovo and Nadym with a hot mix of Lo-Fi House and Leftfield Ambient, alongside touches of Disco and Phonk, to form an understated Rave Sound that works just as easily fucked up and glued to Mario Cart YouTubee-esque visitations of dance music as it does renegade funk siren beckoning a unseen & unknown Eastern bloc TikTok generation onto their home bassment dancefloors. 

From the distorted thump, windy pads, squelchy TB-303, and muffled vocal of the EP’s joint artist opener “Loveless”, to overdriven bells, trap house chug, and drilling bassline of Cyberian Relic solo effort “Fading”, with its introspective lead line reminiscent of Closer Musik’s seminal 2002 cut “Maria” - fyi a compliment of the highest order (in this humble writers opinion anyway!) Back to the artist combo and 135BPM clanging onslaught of “Night Caprise” - a thrilling crank of full frontal house (albeit on the harder edge) with rubbery bassline and looping vocal giving way to massive breakbeat breakdowns and sure to have skulls moving out of their usual back of the crowd nodding orbits into hearty headbang territory. EP ender “I Was Never Around” finds XO-5 on their own rounding out the selection in grand fashion: all big chords and big emotions. A percussive belting. Tweaked out vocals, and white noise house beats. Wherever they reside, we love to discover a duo of artists pushing their personal boundaries, upping each others ante’s and creating techno magic from locations often overlooked in our New World Order. In a time and space that has replaced all reality and meaning with symbols and signs, and where human experience is a simulation of reality, we are thrilled to receive these coded transmissions coming deep from the underground of this simulacrum. Far from Loveless.

As the autumn breeze moves in, we say goodbye to our #SummerOfCreme series with the debut EP from Swiss based artist, SHE Spells Doom (@shespellsdoom) aka Wamya Tembo. "Jacuzzi Jam Junction" is a journey through emotion and time; a place soundtracked by eerie synthesizers reminiscent of John Carpenter and pulsating analog rhythms blending the line between house and techno.

Words from Wamya:

"The title Jacuzzi Jam Junction is actually the name of an imaginary motel I came up with.. Like a little motel surrounded by fog, in the middle of nowhere. A place where lonely people stay up late, watch infomercials, chat on bad dial up, call up party lines or mediums to try reconnect with loved ones they've lost. Some believe amethyst has the power to connect us to the "other side". Just so happens my late Uncle Owen used to give me amethyst rocks when I was a kid.

I was inspired by this and tried to find a way to make music that felt/sounded purple."

After relocating to Melbourne from Sydney in late 2019, trans dance-party activist Sophie Forrest returns to clipp.art (after 2019's "Cinnamon/Empty Shop") with her sophomore release “North Melbourne Suburban Boogie”. An homage to the sounds and local feels of her newly adopted creative home, featuring found sounds sampled all over the North side of the city over recent months - crowds at markets, passer by street traffic, and the denizens of public transport - all feature inside the underlying sonic tapestry of these two groove heavy tracks from this vibe-strong artist. “B Moody” with its perc-tastic groove and finger snapping bass-line clears room for a frenzy of guitar licks & vamps, whistles and bongos galore invite the shy-est feet to the dance arena. Titular track “North Melbourne Suburban Boogie” ups the tempo, laying the energy on thick and deep. A sustained clav chord runs through like a midnight express before letting loose in a section of jumpy chopped staccatos. The arrangements in both tracks are breezy, light and wander wherever they please. They're multi-timbral. They eskew drops and dance around any need for traditional disco structure. These songs are all truly feel, all vibe, clocking in over 6 minutes in length they are not created for the easily distracted. Much like the city & artist that bore them.
