To honour the 100th release on Stay True Sounds, they invited South Africa's leading deep-house player, China Charmeleon, to choose 13 tracks from their back catalogue to remix...  many of which have made it on to this hour-long, smoked out, hazy, deep trip.

China has fast become a favourite in the South African deep house scene with his non-stop work ethic (releasing 2 full albums and 2 Ep's in 2020!), consequently promoting his rise through the scene.

He crafted his trade from a young age, being raised in a church with his father allowing him to explore the keyboard.

One of South Africa's biggest house music producers and label owner of the formidable Stay True Sounds @kidfonque takes the reins of the Monologues Podcast for an hour of deep, soulful productions from his oeuvre. 

*How would you describe your sound?* - Always soulful, very influenced by what surrounds me, which is a very enthusiastic South African deep house audience, a nod to the broken beat era with a heavy dose of deepness.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* - I have been in the dance music business here in SA for over 20 years and I am a fan of other artists music firstly, from Fka Mash, Zaki Ibrahim to Okmalumkoolkat and Jullian Gomes and everyone in between. It all somehow comes out in my own productions in my own way.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* - It's a showcase of my own productions and people that I love who have remixed my music, a lot of collabs and a proper showcase of what I represent as a DJ, label owner and producer.

Clive’s music career started in 1994 with his involvement in his High School events in the East Rand township, Vosloorus. This was highly inspired by his collection of mix-tapes which included the greats like Ganyani, Tokzen and Bob Mabena’s drive time show that played on Radio Bop. His musical taste at the time covered a wide range of styles: Hip Hop (Krs One, Keith Murray, De la Soul…), Funk (Ashford and Simpsons, Kool and the Gang, Diana Ross…) and more specifically House music.This led him to a career in the South African Music Production and DJ Industries in which he has been a recognized player for over 20 years. 

In 1999 He Joined Suga Trax ( a vinyl and dj’s accessory store), which was renamed Soulcandi 
Records. Clive has for years conceptualized and Coordinated his own events. He has been 
commissioned by Levi®’s to compile a     series of South African Afro/Deep House music, for stores all over South Africa. As part of Soulcandi’s current  A&R team, Clive is a Compiler for International and National Dance Music Compilation Cd’s. Clive now also combines his career as a professional Dj with teaching. 

Clive is currently the Head Dj Lecturer at the Boston City Campus(Soulcandi Institute of Music), in Johannesburg. He has been, to date, employed by Soulcandi Music Group for the past 18 years.

 - 2017 - Present: Co Founder of Label Nites hosted Monthly at Shikisha Um'Zimba in 81 Corlett Drive, Sandton.

 - 2015 - 2017: Head Honcho for Reminisce Sunday, a forth nightly Sunday Deep Tech House concept hosted at Kitcheners (Braamfontein, Jozi - South Africa)
