The Gherkin Jerks Compilation

The original 12" vinyl releases of Stomp The Beat and 1990 were two “Holy Grail” releases of Chicago House as they were only available for a short time before Gherkin Records went into inactive status in around 1991. At the time Larry Heard chose to not disclose the fact that he was the producer behind the Gherkin Jerks EPs. The two releases were a concept of experiments where he dove deeper into the equipment and do some creatively different tracks from his Mr. Fingers sound. These two legendary EPs have been heavily influential on other artists to this day. Often sampled or referenced they are true house classics and still amaze 25 years after their creation. 

Also on this album three bonus tracks, which are from the same Gherkin Jerks sessions but never released as such. Psychotic Fantasy was on the Dance 2000 pt. 2 album and Ecstasy is the full original take which makes its first appearence here. Reznaytor is an exclusive track for this release, never available before.

Alleviated Records and Clone Distribution are proud to present a special re-issue of Larry Heard's "Alien" album. Larry Heard's productions always hinted at deepest outer space, but Alien was his first actual science-fiction record. Heard's house roots often show themselves, while the chords and shimmering production make this an album almost on par with Heard's influential mid-'80s releases. The project was a recording & sound-development experiment that was mostly constructed around a Korg O1/W workstation keyboard that was left at Larry’s studio to check out by Victor “melodious myles” Houston along with some of the staples of his studio, including the Roland d550 and Oberheim Matrix 1000. First time the complete album will be available on vinyl.

Ken was on the scene while Bernard (Badie) and Larry (Heard) worked on music ideas between 1993 and 1997 and they both help out on "Love Moon", our first selection. Larry's "psychedelic" interpretation constructed around Bernard's bassline idea and Ken's original elements. "Just A Test" is up next with its' "tracky" feel that dj's, dancers and all who like to keep it "no-frills" should enjoy (we hope!). "Idol Mind" has an interesting combination of "moody", "upbeat" and "whimsical" that draws you in as you listen. "Jack Wit Honey" is another that draws you in as you listen but this time with a "melancholy" overtone combined with a fun "bounce".

The original release on Gherkin Records did not disclose the fact that Larry was the composer/producer/artist of the recording at his request. It was a creative experiment at the time. The "original" 12" Gherkin release was discontinued when Gherkin Records went into an "inactive" status in around 1991. There have been so many inquiries about the release from people who weren't able to find it that it was a MUST that we made it available for your listening and dancing enjoyment. The selections have now also been digitally enhanced and those who own the "original" EP might want to treat themselves to the enhanced 12" as well! Enjoy!
