“Velvet Static” is a seamless blend of deep house warmth, tech house precision, and classic house energy, shaped into a modern club-driven sound. The album moves between silky, atmospheric grooves and sharper rhythmic pulses, creating a rich contrast that feels both intimate and electrifying.

Smooth, hypnotic basslines anchor each track, while textured synth layers add depth and motion—true to the “velvet” in its name. The “static” comes through in subtle percussive details, crisp hi-hats, and glitch-inspired elements that give the music a restless, kinetic edge.

Vocal cuts drift in and out like echoes, adding soul, attitude, and emotional tension without overwhelming the production. Some tracks feature airy, melodic toplines, while others use chopped or filtered vocal fragments to enhance the rhythmic flow.

Bjarki is from Iceland. Born and raised. Despite the fact that Bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dancefloor tracks he doesn’t seem to belong to any particular genre. Something this triptych of LPs demonstrate very well. His music is at times cinematic and there’s a story behind each track. Bjarki’s music always has something to do with him personally, but he’d rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. Either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets.

Б | Lefhanded Fuqs | Æ will be released over the coming months and represent a snapshot of his archive, selected by Nina Kraviz for Trip. The tracks were produced months ago, years ago, or in the case of the last track just a couple of weeks ago. What began with 30 tracks is now 41. The three LPs aren’t albums in the traditional sense - the concept being to release the contents of his burgeoning hard drives. The music might together like an album, but Bjarki doesn’t see it that way. It’s essentially an archive that sounds like an album but none of the music was made with this in mind.

“Б ” [TRP007 |17th June] - consisting of more ravey, sample-based music, mostly tracks that Bjarki never had any intention of releasing. But since Nina has been playing many of them in her sets, releasing them has been given new meaning. In the rave culture of the 90s, that’s proved a strong influence on many of these tracks, what matters was actually “being there”. There was no immediate or alternate technological way to experience it otherwise. "Б" из “B” letter in cyrillic. It’s a word play. A missive for “being" in the moment, being present, being aware… B is for Bjarki.

From Flabaire’s hypnotic vibes to Fareed’s reflective atmospheres and Mezigue’s juddering filter house, the Aubervilliers’ mystic reunion does it all. Just have a listen to the ten tracks they juste came up with. Hard to say who does what in this synergetic time frame but the end result says it all : quality dance music for likeminded voltaic heads.

Lauren Flax is a Detroit native and long time Brooklyn resident who has been performing internationally for many years in a variety of projects and genres. She is known as a versatile and unique artist, an in-demand DJ and a producer with an extensive discography of original tracks, collaborations and remixes, including work with a long list of world class talent such as Grammy nominated artist Sia, Little Boots and Tricky. She has toured worldwide as a member of the successful trip hop project CREEP and can currently be found giving life to hedonistic dance floors worldwide.

The past year has seen Flax busy in her home studio, refining her analog hardware live set and working on her solo productions. One Man’s House is Another Woman’s Techno on The Bunker New York is the fantastic result of this work. All three tracks on the record maintain Flax’s presence and strong dance floor vibe. You may have heard bits of the record in some legendary DJ sets already or as a part of Flax’s killer live set, which was first performed at The Bunker’s 16 year anniversary party in January. “I basically start with just the drum machine...create some patterns to get me started...change the patterns and manipulate the sounds real time so that there is a truly performative aspect captured.” Acidic with a serious vibe, Flax makes sure to let us know “Everything for me has come full circle and I’ve definitely returned to my Detroit roots. Those roots run deep and so do my influences, but I also work very hard at maintaining and advancing my own sound. As for acid, it may have made a resurgence but for many of us who have been at it for decades, it was always present. I still can’t get enough.”
