After five years of planning, writing, and refining their sound, London-based production duo Kolectiv are set to release their long-awaited debut drum & bass album, Circadian Rhythms.

The project began in the aftermath of the pandemic, when the pair started setting aside tracks that captured the spirit of a night out at a drum & bass event. Their vision was clear: to create an album that reflects the variety, energy, and progression of a rave – from the first beats that pull you into the closing sounds that carry you home.

“Going out to drum & bass nights, you’d hear so many different flavours across six or seven hours. We wanted the album to follow that same arc – like a circadian rhythm, a natural flow of time, but in this case the cycle of a rave,” Kolectiv explain.

To achieve this, the duo placed a strong emphasis on originality and sound design. Most of the album was built from scratch using their own recorded samples, crafted through sessions with keys, drums, and guitars, and only dipping into external sources when absolutely necessary. Vocal collaborations from PAV4N, Hijak MC, Illmatika and Kerry Donnelly add unique flavour to the project, while carefully placed interludes tie the project together as a complete listening experience.

“This isn’t just a collection of tracks. We wanted it to be a journey – a cradle-to-grave kind of experience – with highs, lows, and moments to breathe.”

The title Circadian Rhythms captures that intention perfectly: an audio diary of a night spent immersed in drum & bass culture, told through Kolectiv’s trademark blend of technical precision and emotional depth.

The project also coincided with a complete studio overhaul, giving Kolectiv a fresh environment to finalize and mix down the record with a renewed sense of clarity and focus.

With Circadian Rhythms, Kolectiv deliver more than an album – they present a story, an atmosphere, and a tribute to the music and culture that shaped them.

Here was something wrong with his latest creation. It sat very still, staring with tense eyes at him in silence as he leant over the altar of his work. His instruments glinted with the reflected gold of the candle flames that lit his space, the cradle of life where he replanted embers of consciousness in the infertile grounds of the dead. Up until now they had stirred into reality with the confused motion of limbs, eyes rolling and hands moving desperately along the cracks of the floor and the edges of the doorway, seeking fervently a way out. But this one was different – her eyes had snapped sharply open, she sat upright, and since that moment her stillness tainted the room with a quiet malice. Her eyes followed him as he moved, inspecting his work beyond an arm’s length. The black pits of her pupils like twin gravity wells, cold tendrils reaching out and compelling him closer as though death’s hand brushed the back of his neck and whispered timeless truths with a whisper into his ear. He drew back, looking down at the dark blood on his hands as her eyes flicked over them. Reaching behind him, he grasped his chair, sitting down slowly, his legs trembling slightly before buckling beneath his weight. The oppression of her stare bore down upon him.

We figured it was time for some d&b again, we had a few tracks lying around for a while that we wanted to finish and put out and we had 2 collabs that went well together. We wanted to call it the 'Tryhard EP', cause all the tracks were so full on. Then Nik & Karol (khomatech.com) started on the artwork, and couldnt really come up with anyuthing cool with that name, so we decided 'Imperial' was a better name. The artwork took about a week to make. We are very proud of this EP.

Imperial w/ Phace 
Phace came out to Groningen again, as he tends to do, to do music. We started this one without working on the main groove first, Florian had brought this awesome chord progrssion. We made the intro and progression from it, which is quite different musically from our normal stuff. Then we went a bit theatrical with the music, i guess we kind of suprised ourselves with the intensity of the drop. But it was refreshing to do. And it´s been going down rather well in our sets..

Tryhard 
This is an older track that has had quite a few incarnations. It used to be called ´lomp´, which translates to crude, or blunt. We had it lying around unfinished for a long time, and a certain youtube set rip was getting a lot of love, so we figured we'd finish it. Changed the mix, added a rollout section, etc. One of the inspriations for this track is Bad Company - 'Dogfight'.. such a sick tune.

Dustup w/ The Upbeats 
Our friends The Upbeats came down to Groningen amidst one of their Europe tours and we hung out, got in the studio, found an old unused bass riff, used it in the buildup, recorded all of us going 'HA' and 'ZU', worked on drum fills for a long time, temporarly called the tune 'Pumpers', jumped around in the studio and voila! 'Dust Up' was born.

Containment 
This track has had many faces also. It started as a bit of a Kemal tribute and and an attempt to do as many things with synths as possible, like the main drums for example (FM8). Along the way it became a journey back into the dark spacious sound of early 2000 era D&B.

The warrior’s body was torn and broken, held together by thin threads of sinew and muscle that strained against any force put upon them, making each movement an exercise in agony. His very form seemed to mock humanity in its contorted state and presented an anatomical parabole by way of its very living existence. Yet for all of this suffering, he continued on unbowed, determined to become what he had been once again. He had attained the pinnacle of human strength and power, unstoppable in combat for his devastating ability. Such ability had brought enemies who had sought to strike him down unseen, to remove his greatest advantage in traditional combat. Their treacherous assault had nearly destroyed the warrior, but through the strength of his will he had remained, driven onwards by a new purpose: revenge.

For this motive he had crafted an array of devices that fed into him as veins to a heart, healing his body day by day, inch by inch, and molecule by molecule. Serums of his own concoction expedited this process, regenerating his tissues at a rate far beyond the human baseline. He had sealed himself into darkness, illuminated only by the iridescent glow of the technologies which enveloped him as a cocoon. Indeed, all about him was built for the sole purpose of his revenancy but for one inclusion. Directly opposite him stood a mirror, oddly organic in its contrast to the web of cables which surrounded it. His eyes locked forwards, the warrior stared ever into the mirror, unphased by the horrific REFLECTION that stared back. For the warrior, such a visage only bolstered his resolve. The REFLECTION’s of those who had wronged him would look far worse in time.

GANCHER & RUIN make a powerful return to EATBRAIN with the release of their REFLECTION EP, featuring two solo tracks and a collaboration with label boss JADE to form a well-honed three track package. REFLECTION merges the sounds of GANCHER & RUIN with those of JADE to maximum effect, as roaring basslines collide move to funk influenced rhythms in a well-orchestrated sonic synthesis. VELOCITY’s rising arpeggio leads straight into a full frontal drum-fueled assault, driven by the punctual punches of its pulverizing kicks and snares. UNLIMITED closes the EP, marked by the ravey saw stabs that dominate its top line alongside a series of vocal shots that add to the track’s colorful atmosphere. With the REFLECTION EP, GANCHER & RUIN once more display their unstoppable sound across three tracks with great effect.

Topped by a pair of dated hats, two trenchcoats loomed within the neon lit alleyway. Against the glowing backdrop of the city, their canvas forms were anachronistic, seeming to have stepped forth from the silver screens of a heyday long since past. So too unnerving was the silence with which they observed the scene before them, the disfigured and mangled robotic corpse which lay upon the dampened asphalt below. Collecting no evidence nor performing no noticeable forensics, the figures stood stock still as though shocked by that which lay before them. A murder of cold intention, somehow conducted despite the vicegrip of the security network that they represented. One might have expected such if viewing the scene at a certain angle, but in the eyes of the murderer hidden away on a nearby rooftop a different scene was portrayed.

A sole held breath escaped the murderer's mouth as he viewed the metallic investigators below. Mockeries of classical representations of his own form, their old fashioned garb did little to belie the inhuman appearance of what lay beneath. These beings of circuitry and alloy scanned the crime scene with impossible precision, imaging it’s every quality to be processed within the greater security mainframe. His single shot had been perfect, with no ammunition casing left behind, but still he worried at the mainframe’s powers of deduction. Mere moments after his robotic quarry had fallen these investigators had arrived, representing the mechanical law that now governed this once vibrant human city. He knew they would be here for hours, and that he could not move for fear of discovery during that time. Thus, in a murky corner of a soot stained rooftop the murderer hunkered in, blending into the shadows of the city’s dismal noir.

MNDSCP investigates intricate mechanical sonics with his latest PLOT HOLE EP on EATBRAIN, which follows 2019’s Hogzilla EP and a slew of other releases under his earlier Mindscape name on the label. PLOT HOLE sees MNDSCP in full force as he delivers four tracks driven by his signature tech focused sound within a thematically inspired sinister soundscape that invites the EATBRAIN horde to investigate their every undulation.
